Romantic confusion reigns!

The interwoven stories in this book go round like a giant tumble dryer, couples moving together and apart and together again until all the characters are suitably paired off. I was rather glad to get to the end, the action didn't drag but I thought it was all a bit predictable, and a good memory for names is essential or you'll forget who's who. This is not Jill Mansell's best effort, but alright if you have a few hours to fill.

I picked this one up from my shelf to complete the prompt - a book with ‘you’ in the title. I’m so glad I did. It was just lovely and made my heart feel warm reading it. Lola is definitely one of the most positive characters I’ve read about in a long time. It was perfect escapism. It had plenty of wit and I loved Lola’s relationships with her work colleagues, her friends and her parents. I think I would have liked a bit more of Lola and Doug though. I 100% recommend this one if you have it sitting on your TBR or if your looking for an easy read.

A romcom with lots of twists, and laugh out loud moments. It could easily have been a five star rating if it hadn’t been for the frequent, and therefore distracting, lack of correct spacing after full stops which I can only think was a formatting error.

I finished this book as I had bought it and could not avoid wanting to know what happened in the end, but the characters were mostly really unlikeable. The story had a few interesting twists or more pleasant moments, but the women in it in particular were awful. Sally, well brought up in a well-to-do household was an absolute slob, is anyone well educated this trashy in their home? She moves into a short-term rented flat and in just few days turns it into a tip! Not very believable, and most people renting know not to change the furniture, or damage it to avoid incurring costs, and certainly do not paint the walls! Lola has a nice real name, Lauren, and if she lived up to that she would possibly be a nice person, but she lived up to her nickname of Lola, tarty with too short skirts and too low tops, and has the most ridiculous and childish fantasies about famous people. How she got to be a shop manager one wonders, she is too immature and irresponsible. She criticises her mother's taste in clothes yet her own taste is just as awful, and has the usual chick lit aversion to real men with beards. How dare she decide what kind of man is best for her own mother! Some of the characters are sweet, though it is strange that if everyone fancies the handsome Gabe, how come she doesn't? She is totally unsuited to the man she wants as she comes over as thick as too short planks but he is university educated and the relationship would soon founder. I did not like the majority of the characters at all, and I doubt if the other works by this author follow the same vein then they are not for me. I did want something lighter inbetween reading some more serious material, but this was a step too far. At least it is British with only the occasional slip into American words.

How on earth does Jill Mansell keep on writing such great books? Even if some of them are slightly "samey", they're still a pleasure to read. Lola was a joy and SO funny (even if I did have trouble imagining she'd keep the secret about Alex when everyone thought so badly of her!). Everyone always seems to find their 'happy' at the end of Jill Mansell's novels, and especially in these difficult times, reading her books is a a nice bit of pure escapism!

I enjoyed this! A good, pacey read. Tricky to write initially from a teenager's viewpoint (unless you can consult with one nearby!) but it lets us get to know Lola very quickly, right from the beginning of the story. From then on, I was more or less hooked and had to know what would become of her. Several different secondary characters also make their mark, so it doesn't all depend on how you feel about her. Read on and enjoy the fun!
