5.0 out of 5 stars Unleashed did it again! 5 May 2012

After last years BEST LP "As Yggdrasil Trembles" Unleashed returns with another epic LP filled with bone-crushing tracks separated with eerie lill musical sections, the LP is very sinister/dark, a collection of true masterpieces, its almost like watching a dark sci-fi flick! Unlike many wanna-be bands out there, Unleashed puts lots of thought & technical effort in each track without going overboard (too techy and/or too "malmsteenish" riffs)! for anyone considering themselves metal heads this is a MUST!!! AS another reviewer already put it, You will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unleashed Does Not Disappoint 24 April 2012
By J. Hill - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Unleashed is one of those dependable bands that you know are going to put together some solid songs when it comes time to do a new album. After helping define the classic Swedish death metal sound, they went on to do the same with death n' roll. They've since returned to death metal, but added some new elements over the last couple albums. Odalheim continues their progression and fits in well with their recent output. Many of the songs offer variety in structure, with more going on than just verse-chorus. Several tracks lead off with acoustic intros, and most, when compared to old Unleashed, have far more intricacy and technicality in the riffing. Some songs, especially Fimbulwinter, Odalheim, and By Celtic and British Shores, continue to show the increased black metal influence from the last album. The mix of fast, melodic guitars, blast beat drumming, and screeched vocals don't sound as instantly recognizable as what I've grown accustomed to from this band over the years. It still sounds like Unleashed, but the inclusion of new elements is refreshing. Even songs like The Hour of Defeat, Gathering the Battalions, and Germania, which bring the album back to traditional Unleashed territory, retain a more accomplished, musically proficient sound. The Great Battle of Odalheim concludes the album in epic fashion, finishing off a release that sees Unleashed continue to get better. Quite an accomplishment for a band that's been playing extreme metal for over 20 years and never compromised. Fans should not be let down with the new album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Death Metal from Unleashed with a Blackened Tinge! 5 May 2012
By Ruscletheluvmuscle - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I've been a longstanding fan of Unleashed for the last ten years and have to say that Ive been pleasantly surprised with their latest two efforts "As Yggdrasil Trembles" and now "Odalheim". Im a fan of all things Death and Black and to me theres nothing better then when the two genres are combined. I love bands like Dissection and Lord Belial and I dare say I can hear their influences on a couple of the newest tracks offered up by these insane Swedes. Yes, you mainly get your usual offering of headbanging Swedish Death Metal here but Unleashed continues to progress and change their direction ever so subtley as to keep their music refreshing and interesting. If your more a fan of their thrashy death and roll style such as offered up on their phenomenal albums "midvinterblot" and "Hammer Battalion" you may be slightly put off by their latest offering. Myself however, like varied styles of death and black and love it even more when one of my favorite bands isnt afraid to delve into these different styles or mix them up. If your a fan of these guys or even of Melodic death/black metal give this a try. I dont think you'll be disappointed.
