Had I known this was a necessary requirement for most of the recipes in this book, I wouldn't have bothered buying it. The one review was so glowing I was expecting something...I don't know, more useful, perhaps. I was hoping for loads of new recipes I had never heard or thought of, or recipes using different types of oats - different sizes of oat MEAL (as opposed to porridge oats), like pinhead oatmeal, etc. Nope, almost every recipe in the book uses porridge oats, which it requires you to make or grind into flour in a coffee grinder before you start...personally, I don't possess such a thing as a coffee grinder. If it's a case of adding more oats to our diet, I can just add a handful of porridge oats to regular recipes or sprinkle some on top? Sorry, but I was VERY disappointed with this book.

I purchased this book many years ago when my husband was diagnosed with Diabetes as it was recommended to increase his fibre content. Unfortunately I lost the original book when we moved so I was delighted to discover that it was available through Amazon. It is a great recipe book - full of many various delicious ideas. The only reason I have not given it 5 stars is that it is not illustrated. A good buy.

This is not a book for the coffee table. It is definitely a book for use in the kitchen particularly if you are interested in completely new recipes using oats. We could all be healthier if we ate more oats. Rita Greer uses them in all kinds of foods - soups, main meals, biscuits, bread, buns, cakes, cookies, stuffings, pasta, sausages, snacks and drinks. She even tells you how to make your own breakfast flakes. A book for home cooks interested in new horizons. Easy and nutritious cooking and baking with oats.
