Well, I did it once to my dad's hedge trimmer a while back, so it only seems fair that I done exactly the same thing to my own one last weekend! I was pretty miffed with myself as I was certain that I was keeping a good watch on where the cable was, but all it took was one lapse of concentration and 'POP', my trimmer cut through the cable like a hot knife through butter.
In the past, I've resorted to the effective-but-not-exactly-safe approach of splicing the copper wiring and lashing it together the electrical tape and duct tape, but this time I decided to get one of these proper connectors.
If you've ever wired a plug before, then connecting the wires to these are even easier than that - the hardest bit is stripping back the right amount of cable, but once you've done that it's a simple case of tightening the screws onto the wires and Bob's your uncle. Just make sure that you thread the orange connector covers onto the cables BEFORE you start - you don't want to (as I did) realise this after all the wires were connected!
So in terms of an actual review, these are perfect for repairing broken cables. Once connected, they don't pull apart too easily, they're well made and tough, too - so are perfect for the job.
After ordering it early on a Tuesday, it was delivered 2 days later, a day earlier than the estimated earliest delivery date quoted so that was actually pretty good. However, as many reviewers have mentioned, the description of this product states that it is made of rubber when in fact it is made of hard plastic. I didn't feel that it was worth returning for that reason alone and was half expecting it anyway but the product description really should have been changed by the vendor a long time ago considering how many people have reported it in their reviews and presumably, in their customer feedback too.
As others have mentioned, the connector screws are tight fitting so you will need a phillips screwdriver with a solid grip to get enough purchase to unscrew/screw them easily without damaging the screwdriver slots on the screw head. However, once the wiring is completed, the good news is that the product does actually work fine. The one caveat is that the two connector halves are fairly easily pulled apart without too much force needed so do make sure the female end half of the connector is connected to the plug end for safety while in use.
