The Opolar laptop fan is an external add-on for your laptop. It draws the heat out of the side of your laptop case, where the CPU fan is located, cooling off your CPU and hard drive. It can be permanently attached or just slid into the side, with its rubber cowl pressed up against the laptop case. I tested it first with a Dell Inspiron 17 that was being used for typical business work: PowerPoint, Word, Skype, etc. Set to Auto mode, it turned on and off when it sensed the CPU was getting too hot. The top of the Opolar cooling fan has a temperature window (Fahrenheit) to show you the current temperature of the air being pulled out. On the Dell, the fan turned on and off.
I tested it on my Acer Aspire 5439 next, which I know runs hot. I used the CPUID HWMonitor to show me the current temperatures of the hard drive and CPU. After starting up a browser and opening up Windows Media Player to stream a video, the temperature climbed rapidly. The Opolar in auto mode didn't have much of an impact, so I switched to Manual mode. You can force the fan into higher revs to bring down the heat more aggressively. This worked really well, bringing my CPU temperature back down from critical heat to below the midpoint. It's a bit noisy at full speed but the sound is comparable to the Acer's fan at full speed, but much cooler. Once I dialled the Opolar fan down a bit, it was quieter but still able to keep my laptop cool within a safe range.
The Opolar laptop cooling fan is a great option for laptop owners who have underpowered laptops or CPUs that run hot. In particular, I could see this being useful if you are gaming on a laptop that isn't quite up to it.
re can be easily adjusted .
This product has room for improvement even though it is the best solution available for a laptop with a broken fan, While it is easy to attach the Opolar and have it cool the laptop it can also fall off fairly easily if you are moving the laptop around so be careful that it does not drop a break.
Expect it to be a bit bulky and the attachment to the laptop might be a bit tricky BUT it cools down my laptop's CPU very fast and this is why I bought it. So it does the job perfectly and my laptop has note shut down since I start using the fan. Note that when the maximum fan speed (it has 13 levels) is used it does make some noise. The fan has also an automatic mode where you don't have to bother pressing buttons. I am using the fan with an external USB power supply, although it can be attached to one of the laptop's USB port. I believe it is better this way as you save and maintain the laptop's battery better.
