Unfortunately, before you buy this album you may want to read the lyrics in the songs - don't get me wrong, i'm a 21yr old skater who swears as much as the next guy but is it really that necessary??! going through the lyrics in the sleeve, i counted the word "f**k" no less than 40 times in the first three songs alone, and that's not including the fact that the chorus get sung 2 or 3 times in one song.
Personally i think that "explicit lyrics" is an understatement and if this is the future of so called 'hardcore' and what Hed are going to be making musically i'm, afraid i won't be buying any more CD's - in fact, by next weekend this will be back on the shelves of my local music store.
The good points here are that the songs are much more dynamic than 'Blackout' and haven't been over-produced to within an inch of their lives. Also, the drumming is great, the guitars are heavier and sound a hell of a lot better - there's even the odd solo. Basically the songwriting and feel of the album are a lot closer to the classic 'Broke' sound than anything they've done since.
And then the bad...well, for me it's just the lyrics. Jared spits some really filthy lyrics on this, and I mean nasty. I can mostly cope with the filth, so the main downer is actually just the childishness of a lot of what he says - most of it just seems like real teenage agro.
So basically get it's a killer album if you can put up with the lyrics, otherwise I would recommend going for their next album 'Back 2 Base X' which is ace, although a lot more laid back than most of their records.
What can I say; the production is raw and dirty, the lyrics are immature, misogynistic, and abrasive, and we absolutely loved it all the more for it. Granted, if you're not a male between the ages of 16-30 its probably gonna be lost on you, but if you are the whole albums such a rush. It may be worth mentioning that normally I listen to death metal and rap, so nothing lyrically is gonna shock me, this was like pornogrind where you could hear the lyrics. If you're not used to stuff like this then loosen the hell up!
I listen to it before a night out or whenever i want to get pumped up and get the testosterone flowing. Just let loose and indulge in the vibe.
