Although this book tackles the issues surrounding grief, it is written in such a way that made me laugh - out loud, such was the talent of the author. It is extremely well-written (despite typos), promoting wonderful tone and style.

The characters were believable, as were the issues. It is a long book but certainly worth reading.

I don't give spoilers, but will say that this book is overflowing with humour, which helps the storyline of what could have been a depressing topic - a fun romance with a mysterious twist.

Highly recommended.

Rosary McQuestion's book 'Once upon another time' touches on a number of exciting concepts: everlasting love that crosses over into the afterlife, loss and sorrow, the challenge of balancing career and family life, and the warmth of friendship. The protagonist is lovable lawyer Aubrey McCory, a scatterbrained mother and widow, who still pines for her dead husband, Matt. At a dark time in her life, she suddenly begins to see Matt's ghost in different places, and other weird things happen, and she wonders why Matt is trying to contact her. She struggles to find answers, but answers are as elusive as snow on a summer's day.

The essence of this book is that all the key characters are likeable, you care what happens to them, and hope against hope that poor bereft Aubrey, who never got over her husband Matt's death, can somehow find happiness. Despite her friend Laura's attempts at matchmaking, Aubrey never finds anyone who can replace Matt. What is more she finds her sudden ability to read people thoughts disquieting to say the least (especially when she reads a potential suitor's mind when he thinks her breasts are small!).

Lots of thing happen, lots of difficulties lie in Aubrey's path, chiefly her fear that she's losing her mind, and her doubt that her new psychic abilities can be genuine. But there's also a lot of humour, and the book is interspersed with plenty of zany crazy happenings that keep you smiling.

Why is Aubrey's dead husband giving her messages? Why does she keeps seeing his ghost and feel that he's struggling to tell her something? And how can she ever be happy with a new man, when she knows she will never get over the death of Matt? Confusion happens when she meets the eminently desirable Gavin and finds him attractive.

Rosary McQuestion's gloriously romantic Once Upon Another Time is one of those books every woman should read who has gone through grief and the anguish of loss. It deftly juggles the concepts of love continuing beyond the grave while raising a child and working long hours. The entire book is from lawyer, Aubrey McCory's point of view and the author seamlessly weaves a paranormal tale of strange messages from the afterlife with Aubrey's close friendship with her best friend, Laura.
From the first page the reader is hooked and needs to turn the next page all lovingly coated with rich descriptions, the inner workings of the female mind under extreme stress and a mystery that slowly unravels along with Aubrey. Is Aubrey responsible for her husband, Matt's death seven years before? Her psychiatrists seem to think she is guilty about his death. Why can't she remember the events leading up to that fateful cliff fall? Why wait till now for Matt to appear leaving cryptic clues? Why strange goings on at her home and more worryingly at her lawyers' office where Aubrey's erratic behavior is becoming increasingly noticeable?
And why can she suddenly hear everyone's thoughts? Is Aubrey going insane like her Aunt Millie who died under mysterious circumstances or is there a more subtle influence directing her to a destiny beyond her understanding? Will Aubrey unravel the mystery and be able to fall in love again? Read this 5* romantic mystery to find out. You will not be disappointed - I wasn't!

Aubrey McCory is a woman in love. The only trouble is, the love of her life, husband Matt, died eight years ago in a tragic accident, and before their son was born. Aubrey knows she should move on, but there is something about Matt's death that simply won't let her. It must have been something dreadful because her mind has blanked it out - she can't recall that day or exactly what happened.

Aubrey is also a high-flying lawyer, a practical woman who deals daily with the gritty world of claim and counter-claim. Not the kind of woman normally given to flights of fancy. Yet when strange things start happening that seem to point toward the ghost of her husband telling her it's ok to move on and date Gavin, the handsome new man on the scene, Aubrey is torn three ways. Should she stay true to Matt's memory, or move on and date Gavin - or maybe she's losing her mind?

In this well-written romance with paranormal overtones, Rosary McQuestion handles the supernatural aspects with a delicate touch. Aubrey is a complex woman, devoted to her career, her young son, and her husband's memory. Yet the reader wills her to make a new life with Gavin, with whom son Nicholas bonds deeply. Is there a surprising connection between Gavin and Matt? Can the spirit really live on after death? They say love never dies - read this book and find out if it's true. You won't be disappointed!
