A good general overall view of occult London. The author obviously likes William Blake and goes into detail about Blakes London which is very intresting, only a small bit on Aleister Crowley and A.O.S but this is a pocket essials book and not a large book. There are things in this book you will not know!So have a read.

This is a fascinating jaunt through the specific occult history of London, using famous or notorious figures like John Dee, Madame Blavatsky and Nicholas Hawksmoor to explain the little peculiarities that make London such an interesting place to live. There's enough social history to ground the work, and an interesting appendix detailing notable areas, such as Barnes Common (setting for the first sighting of Spring-Heeled Jack) or Highgate Cemetery (home to the Highgate Vampire in the 1970s). The book is written in a straightforward style, making it an easy and interesting read.

This is a badly written book, which is misleadingly named. Not what you want if you're planning on visiting London and want to know about landmarks and such.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 2 July 2011

I had wanted some specific information for a future trip to London. Instead this is a cursory and sketchy outline of sone famous occult personages and happenings. Sketchy because for example, Dion Fortune is not even mentioned. while Crowley's life and some of his achievements are described, some information is wrong and misleading. Clearly the author did not spend much time on research, as his mistakes are easily checked online. I would have liked much more detail as to the neighborhoods mentioned, and what places if any are still in existence.
