The book itself is informative and gives you great guidance on how to use Nutritional Yeast. The only flaw is the medium. I bought the kindle edition and have found a problem. It is not easy to flick through and find a recipe. The kindle medium works well for books where you go in one direction only, but with recipe books I like to skip sections, mark recipes I want to try and generally play about whilst I am in the kitchen- a Kindle does not allow you to do this. So if you are thinking of buying this book get it in paperback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Anyone Using Nutritional Yeast 30 May 2014

Oldie but a goodie! "What the heck is nutritional yeast?" I something I've heard quite often since I started cooking vegan meals. I found this cookbook when searching for TVP burgers (Food.com posted the recipe for Vegan Nutritional Yeast and Tvp Veggie Burgers); once I tasted them, I knew I had to get the cookbook! Stepaniak does a fantastic job explaining what the heck this yellow flaky wonderfulness is and how to use it. Her recipes are simple but really good and healthy.

I recommend the paperback version over the Kindle edition. I like having a copy on my phone when I got grocery shopping but I prefer using the paperback version when cooking. Since the book is old, the formatting is a bit messy on the Kindle version which is annoying.

Overall: Essential book for anyone making vegetarian or vegan meals who is looking to incorporate more nutritionally rich ingredients into their diet. I think it's beneficial for new cooks, as well as people like me for have been cooking for years.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Resource 10 Mar. 2015

There may be no recipes for nut butter cheeses in this book, but, this well-thumbed and well-used cookbook published in 1954 is providing for me a fabulous resource for understanding how to use Nutritional Yeast Flakes as well as Nutritional Yeast Powder. I finally found on Page 7 "Important note: If the flaked nutritional yeast is not available in your area, use half as much of the powdered form." I've reviewed the entire cookbook, and believe me, my tongue is salivating!

I'm glad I only spent $0.07 for this book. Why? Other folks may not like to see any cookbook which is worn, thumb-nailed with folded-down pages, or notes written in pencil. But, I'm a real cook who loves to cook. Since I love to cook, I love to see what other folks do. Yes, some of the recipes are really dated (it did come out in 1954 1 year before I graduated from high school), and our knowledge-base has greatly changed; however, this is an excellent book to add to your library whether or not you are Vegan. Why? If you are not Vegan, you have friends who are, and it would be excellent to know how to cook foods which are good for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The absolute BEST VEGAN COOKBOOK!!! 19 Sept. 2009
By Marquita Dorsey Wilson - Published on Amazon.com

I can't express how much I love this book. Not only does it show you how easy it is to incorporate nutritional yeast into everyday food, but the recipes are always always delicious. My favorite is better than burger...It truly is better than any burger I have ever had...it is sooo good that I haven't been able to stop talking about it. The spaghetti and wheat ball--it was so good that my non vegetarian friends made me get the box of wheat gluten out of the trash to prove that it was meat. I mean everything is sooo good. The tofu finger or nuggets-everything...OH wait the potato and kale soup...Let me tell you, with only 5 or so ingredients you would never believe it would ever be so savory. Just too good. The cheeze recipes are good too. Like I said-everything! There are sauces, cheezes, soups-a full course meal of recipes and then some. It's worth every penny. But what I love most are that they're many "American" homestyle recipes so it's so easy to remember the ingredients...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Goldmine 7 Jun. 2013

This cookbook is published by the same people who printed my very first vegetarian (acutally vegan) cookbook - The Farm, in Summertown, TN. My old cookbook has worn pages, some with stains, and many dog-ears and notes. I can tell this one will suffer the same fate! I have already used several of the recipes (they make it easy) and they are fun and tasty. I have used nutritional yeast for over 20 years (off and on) and it is a wonderful healthy addition to meals. I recommend this book to anyone interested in improving their own health and that of their family.
