Product Description

This dark comedy series starring Emmy Award winning actress Edie Falco takes place in the surreal world of a New York City hospital, where Falco plays Jackie, a nurse battling the insanity of everyday life in the American health care system. Jackie is a genius at what she does, but she's also a deeply troubled woman, with looming shadows of prescription drug addiction and her lapsed Catholic faith always appearing in the background. Produced by the Showtime network, NURSE JACKIE never shrinks from tackling controversial content or hot button issues.

This is pure genuis and will seriously get you hooked. It is refreshing and takes a serious subject but deals with it in a sensitive and humous way.Eve Best is delightful and the British element. Whilst Edie get to gel everyone together she doesn't steal the lime light from her co stars as their parts take greater presidence.

I watched parts of this series on regular TV but sometimes missed episodes due to its poor time slot and very little promotion. It's a definite winner in my book. It was a joy to sit and watch all 4 seasons (I'm retired and have time on my hands). Edie Falco is excellent as the central character but Eve Best gives her a run for her money in the performance stakes. It is a relief from the almost relentlessly upbeat and moralistic characters often portrayed on American TV to see such flawed individuals being presented as heroes.

I bought the box set because I first saw this series on TV and loved the black humour and dysfunctional characters. However my cable company discontinued the TV station that showed it and I lost track half way through series 2. Edie Falco is great as Nurse Jackie, who plays an outwardly hard and efficient nurse, with a complicated love and family life, but who is trying to do the best she can in the situation she is in. The "situation" is not what you would expect. It's a blacker and harder look at life in and around a hospital than any of Grey's Anatomy or the original E.R. However it has its humorous moments and is quite engrossing as the characters develop - Eve Best as the English Dr O'Hara is excellent. As is Mrs Akilitis, the hospital administrator, and Zoey, the new nursing assistant. The story lines are not predictable.

I began watching this show in the first season when I came across a clip of episode 1 with Peter Facinelli and Edie Falco. While I can't remember what exactly happened it in, I found Nurse Jackie to be a edgy drama that had fun real life storylines in it. I remember seeing such brilliant writing in just this one clip and I had to find out more.

Every character in the show has a real life personalty that tends to get into TV show situations.

Jackie is a nurse who is good at what she does. From every hospital situation I've seen on the show, she believes in doing the right thing for her patients, no matter how ethical or law breaking it is. She can handle anything that comes her way in the hospital whether it's her job or whether the fact that she is always working to feed her addiction , keeping her two lives separately and trying to keep a handle on all the lies in her life. Like everyone, Jackie has bad 'habits'. She is addicted to painkillers and she does anything to get them. In both seasons, we see Jackie do things that go against every person that loves and trusts her just so she can get her fix.

The cast that support her are unbelievable talented and all the characters fit into the show perfectly.

Zoey is my favourite character. She is hilariously funny nearly all the time, even when Merritt Wever doesn't even act it funny. I like how the storyline with Zoey is progressing with her new nursing work experience in Season 1 and her new relationship in season 2 and she still keeps her upbeat young personalty along the way. She seems to gets herself into the most hilarious situations, but still keeps her normal personalty which makes her character feel like a real life nurse than the others in the show.

Had to buy this to introduce my sister to this amazing tv series. I have seen every episode so far and it holds my attention completely. What they manage to cram into each short but oh so poignant episode is unbelievable. So good to see such intelligence on tv, just the fact that Jackie is such an anti-hero/bad example makes me cheer.

Proper black comedy at its best. She says the things everyone thinks but hasn't the guts to utter. Shows everyone from all walks of life has problems and flaws but can have a very regular face they show the world

A winning mix of scrubs, ER, Greys Anatomy and the wire all chucked into one.
Dark humour, and total understanding of how humans can be super-flawed (good people doing bad things, bad people doing good things...etc)
