This guy does get a lot of stick, mainly because of his weight and his appearance on 'Celebrity Fat Club' probably did little to help his reputation.
However when it comes down to singing, this guy's talent is undeniable.
He was never destined to be a 'Pop Idol'. Lets face it, teenage girls were hardly going to have posters of him on their bedroom wall or a pencil case with his photo on it!
I knew this was an album of covers and was almost cringing when I put this into my CD player. Although his vocals were great on 'I Will Always Love You", the track its self was bad for his reputation and made him into even more of a joke. However there are some bloody good covers on there. Alexander O'Neill's "Criticize" and Jon Secada's "Just Another Day" are pretty decent in my opinion.
An album of covers will never be given much credit, but Mr Waller has done a decent job on these. If he could write good songs, then he may have a decent career in music, appealing to a more grown up audience. However his 2nd album also appears to be full of covers and I anticipate that will be his last.
Great singer, but if he cannot produce his own music, then he unfortunately won't ever be taken seriously as an artist in his own right and will never shake off the 'Pop Idol' stigma.
