Rj Scott has certainly hit the right note and tone with her first book in the Stanford Creek Series.
This is a HEA story between Cody and Megan. I thought it was well written with grit and drama in between.
I enjoyed this book for the above reasons but Rj also incorporated the other characters from future books in the Stanford Creek Series rather cleverly I thought as this book, could then be read as a Standalone although much better when in the Series.
I would have no hesitation recommending this to another reader. For me it was a 5* read. I enjoy the storyline and the main characters and others immensely!
Cody had my attention the moment he arrived bearded and bloody in Megan’s shop. The traumatised recluse is fascinating and ultimately very loveable. I loved his secrets and his ultimate vulnerability. However, as a reader of a certain age, there were times I struggled to see a boy band singer as a serious leading man.
While Cody is a very complex character, there were times that Megan felt very lightly sketched. She is developed against her her large extended family but I never felt her develop into a unique character on her own.
A slightly creepy stalker story runs parallel to the central romance, adding tension and excitement to an otherwise quite ordinary romance. I enjoyed the suspense element of this story very much.
I love RJ Scott’s m/m books so I had to try her first m/f. I have to admit that I’m sadly a little underwhelmed but my usual reservations about m/f romance may be clouding my judgement. There are too many m/f cliches here. Megan is the nice girl contrast to the loose women groupies Cody is used to. She is protected by Alpha male family members; she panics about being single at 25. I had hoped that a favourite m/m author who usually writes stories about equals could avoid the irritating gender stereotypes so common in m/f romance but this is just too traditional and too sweet for me.
I’m leaving the star rating at 4 because this is a well crafted story and my reservations are all about personal preference. There are some interesting characters in Stamford and I’m still eager to see how this series progresses.

Former pop star, CJ (Cody) Taylor is starting over and leaving life in the spotlight. He retreats to a small town in Vermont and makes his debut in town in a way he never imagined and in the process, meets Megan Campbell.
This is a somewhat typical boy meets girl story but Ms. Scott’s writing that makes all the difference. There’s mystery and suspense along with some family drama. Cody and Megan get a HFN (happy for now) and the book introduces additional characters who feature in the other books in the series.
Megan is the owner, alongside her cousin Rachel, of Notes and Roses. Its a little Florist/stationary shop that sounds amazing. Megan has two overprotective brothers and a male cousin always keeping a close eye on her.
CJ Tyler, now Cody Brennan, use to be in a boy band. After a stalker incident and several other reasons, he quit the band and went running to hide.
When these two meet, their chemistry is explosive. Even the first time they met, when Cody was hurt and out of it, stumbling into her shop, bleeding and collapsed. You can tell something started from there and grew and grew.
This was an amazing story. I loved it to pieces and recommed it to you all.

Cutting Muse Blog Review
Cody is sweet, slightly awkward, a bit secretive and, despite the unusual circumstances surrounding their first meeting, is instantly smitten by Megan. That being said, I felt as if something was missing. Cody's history is told in a series of conversations and memories interspersed throughout the story that lacked continuity, making it harder for me to connect with his emotions. A prologue introducing CJ's character prior to meeting Megan would have been the perfect way to demonstrate the changes.
Notes and Roses is a delightful romance with the perfect balance of drama and suspense. I'm a long time fan of RJ Scott's writing and am equally enchanted with her first foray into mainstream storytelling.
My OFFICIAL REVIEW written for Carly’s Book Reviews.
Cj and Megan story will draw you end and reading it in one sitting like I did. Once I started I could not stop. I was drawn into their world and definitely held me captive. A story of love, romance and of course passion.
When I first started this I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did but I enjoyed every word of this story. The writing was captivating the author literally draws you in the character’s world. This will not be my last book from this author if this is what she has to offer. I say let Notes and Roses draw you into CJ and Megan’s world and let it hold you captive. You will not be sorry .
