-This is essential and highly recommended reading for medical students and doctors in training, and a volume which clinicians, public health workers and professions allied to Medicine, and dare I suggest Medical Microbiologists, will wish to have readily at hand.- Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease, March 2010 ''The book does exactly what it sets out to do in providing non-infection specialists with a quick and easy source of essential microbiological information. The text is well laid out, with a consistent use of subheadings and enough figures and pictures to illustrate key points. The book's success is its very wide coverage of medical microbiology topics (including mycology, parasitology, vaccines)in sufficient detail for the non-specialist to ensure that key facts are transmitted. An impressive feat.'' Notes on Medical Microbiology Katherine N Ward

The first few chapters of this book introduce the reader to microbiology, bacteria and viruses, and antimicrobial treatment. However, it's certainly not `Microbiology for Dummies!', the rest of the chapters either tackle infection by system; discuss ways of preventing disease; or are more specialist, tackling areas such as infection in pregnancy. All chapters are well illustrated (gory photos, diagrams etc.). I definitely felt that the book deserves the title `Notes on...' - it's detailed while still quite concise and ideal for quick reference. It probably lies somewhere between a revision text and a big textbook of microbiology!
