This is an Eddie Collins crime thriller, and judging by this one, I must read the others.

Eddie is a crime scene investigator (CSI), working a murder scene in the pouring rain at night and having difficulties with the local detectives.
He realises that he has seen the victim before.

When he returns to his office, he finds a cryptic death threat.
He has received threats before from guilty and/or angry culprits, but this note is so short and (not so) sweet that it unnerves him.
But that is nothing compared to what actually develops, and how things gradually dawn on him.

Despite being only a short story, this is one of the most enjoyable crime thrillers I have read. Lots of suspense and humour from Eddie’s point of view, and nice twists at the end.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I first read the brief excerpt from the short story.
A very clever play with words combined with complex but believable characters kept me enraptured from start to finish.
Never quite expecting what would come next, the author holds our complete attention , trying always to second guess our expected reaction to a chain of events. Even down to the very end, asking our villain (in a Freudian way) for a cigarette. Loved it, it's use of a mixed ensemble of characters even down to grammar correction, had me spellbound but laughing simultaneously. Thoroughly enjoyable and recommend to all

A short story well written to hold ones attention. A quality novel which is short because nothing is added to distract the reader from the plot.An intro to the Author and character for me, I shall be looking for more of both. A really good read.

Started interesting then just got better!
Thought it would be just a run of the mill type police story but found myself unable to stop reading, had to find out what happens to Eddie.
Great story, great suspense, great humor, great ending.
Recommend you read this and then get more CSI Eddie Collins books.
Gritty, grimy and great British storytelling at its best!

I am not usuually a fan of short stories, just as you are getting into them, they are over. This one is different, the compelling storyline immediately drags you in and hits you with twist after twist, and with the dark humour of Eddie Collins thrown in, you will not be able to put it down! This is easily the best short story I have read and would recommend it to anyone, The climax is quite brilliant!

A great short story by Andrew Barrett. I'm not usually a fan of such short stories but I enjoyed this one so much that as soon as I finished it, I downloaded all of Andrews books! Looking forward to reading more from a new author to me.

The more I read by Andrew Barrett, the more I am impressed with his style, his detail and ability to keep a plot twisting, turning and holding your attention throughout. The Note, although a short story, is no exception. This tale features CSI Eddie Collins coming face to face with someone from his past and is a gripping, exciting and at time breathtaking read. Once again, you are in the room with our hero, seeing what he sees, hearing what he hears, thinking what he thinks and most remarkably, feeling every shred of emotion that he is feeling. A Truly outstanding tale.
