‘Not a Happy Family’ is an understatement! Following the murder of their bullying father and weak mother, the children are less concerned with their loss than how much they are going to inherit. And of course, just which one of them might be the murderer? Cue a tale of greed and duplicity. The plot rattles along at a fast pace and is told in short chapters, each from a different character’s perspective. There are holes in the plot and quite a bit of repetition as the story progresses and the ending is disappointingly underwhelming, but if it’s an easy read you’re after and one which keeps you guessing, then this fits the bill.

When a wealthy middle-aged couple are found murdered in their home, it turns out that nobody really cares. The victims were not well-liked by their family and so-called friends, and their adult children are delighted to be receiving a hefty inheritance. Then, as suspicion falls on the heirs, old feuds are reignited and new squabbles begin among them. In this well-written and twisty tale, no-one is quite what they seem, not even the victims.

SL has not kept up the standard of The Couple Next Door in her subsequent books. I have read them all hoping for a repeat but they have all fallen short including this one. It's a perfectly good read but doesn't hit the heights of suspense. You can always rely on the author to put a sting in the tail of all her books, however.

I enjoyed the book and as you were meant to, I found the 4 main characters unpleasant.
The which one is the murderer is solved near the end so we know who it is but the characters don’t know.

I didn't really engage with any of the characters in this book, and perhaps that is why I didn't really care whodunit, but overall it was just too slow, too repetitive.
The only part of the book I truly enjoyed was the epilogue.
Overall I found it tiresome.
