Product Description

All eight episodes from the second series of the witty BBC sitcom. Lee (Lee Mack) shares a flat with Kate (Megan Dodds). Their friendship is complicated by the fact that Lee's best friend, Tim (Tim Vine), is also Kate's ex-boyfriend. Episodes comprise: 'Mortgage', 'Gay', 'The Librarian', 'Baby', 'Art', 'Dating', 'Gangster' and 'Murder at Christmas'.

Synopsis

BAFTA winning comedians Lee Mack and Tim Vine star alongside Sally Bretton (Green Wing, Channel 4) in the hilarious, gag-filled second series of the hit Royal Television Society and Rose d'Or award-winning BBC sitcom Not Going Out. Meet Lee (Mack)--a man who has a problem. His flatmate Kate has moved out for good and his best mate and landlord, Tim (Vine), has put the apartment up for sale. Faced with the prospect of losing the flat, not to mention his well-meaning but utterly useless cleaner Barbara (Miranda Hart), Lee rents the spare room to Tim's ambitious younger sister Lucy (Bretton). Lee's new domestic set-up leads him to discover the art world, the underworld and the lengths one man will go for tickets to an England football match.

Just to let everybody know this DVD includes all 7 episodes of Series 2 and the Christmas Special "Murder At Christmas." I searched for a long time before this was released and nowhere would tell me whether the Christmas Special was included, but having received this yesterday (31/01/09) and watched it all on the same day I can say with certainty that it is included. Brilliant series, fantastically funny, easily the equal of Series 1.

I absolutely loved series 1 of Not Going Out. I flew through the first 6 episodes of the series, so was raring for series 2. There are some changes in the second series, but overall it doesn't disappoint and this remains a top quality comedy.

Lee Mack's comedy is as quick and well written as in the first series. There isn't a single episode where he didn't make me laugh out loud. Similarly, his best friend Tim continues to provide a stark contrast to Lee's brash style and always amuses. We are also introduced to the new flat cleaner, Barbara, portrayed by Miranda Hart... who has some excellent back and forth with Lee's character. I think my favourite episode this series is probably "Art", in which Lee pretends to be an art expert, but there are plenty of great laughs to be had. Although not a huge part of the series, we are also introduced to Daisy who becomes a much bigger part of the series going into series 3. Another highlight was the brilliant Christmas special, in which the gang play a murder mystery role play; complete with costumes.

A few slightly negative points. While this is a good series, I don't think it's quite as good as series 1 or 3. That may be because I was still getting used to one of the biggest changes. Lee's flatmate Kate is no longer in the show and she is replaced by Tim's sister, Lucy. According to Lee Mack, this was because British viewers didn't like having an American in the series and I don't know if that's the whole reason (if it is, that's just stupid), but I think it's a shame. I really liked Kate and I'm afraid I never warmed to Lucy quite as much; despite her remaining with the series for the duration. I don't dislike her per say; I just don't find her quite as funny or interesting as the rest of the cast.

Just when I thought that Series 1 was the best, Series 2 proves to me even more so. Lee Mack heads up a small but perfectly formed cast as and hits you with quick-fire sarcastic humour. A must to compliment the first series.

The concept of this comedy situation is simple but marvelously effective. Lee Mack is a brilliant writer and and even better performer. Great humour, great fun.

I bought this 2nd series last year and I watch it mainly for Daisy. She is so stupid but completely funny, and quite adorable. The episode I watch all the time is the 6th one (Dating) where Daisy (played by Katy Wix) makes her debut in the show. I don't really bother with the other episodes because I don't like the Guy character. (What's he doing in it). Lee Mack is funny, and as he wrote it, and part produced it, then he must be quite clever as well. Tim Vine is also good, and Sally Bretton plays the part of Lucy well - although she seems a bit cold, and I prefered the American girl in the first series anyway. But my favourite character is Daisy, although she is only in the 6th and 8th episodes. I am going to order the 3rd series today.
