I have a holiday planned for later this summer to Norway and have been trying to learn a little of the local lingo.
I have several phrase books which are all reasonable but not a patch on this one which dates from the late 1980s, if I recall correctly.

The newer versions concentrate on giving you stock phrases to use, but don't give much idea of how the language is formed. I'm a bit 'old school' and prefer a proper setting out of the grammar etc, though.
It covers most things that you might need help with - things like at the airport, customs and passport control, as well as shopping and social interactions with the locals.

A well arranged phrase book, though I often find myself using it in conjunction with a dictionary to expand on the phrases or find exact translations for root words. A worthy nominee for your consideration if you are seeking a phrase book.

There being no Norwegian into English translation it only did half the job!!
But clarity of print and divisions were good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good listings but dictionary found to be better source 5 Sept. 1999

Family of four spent 20 days in Norway, July 1999. Most Norwegians speak some, if not a great deal of English. Therefore, we most often needed a dictionary to interpret signs, etc. We used a dictionary frequently; we used the phrase book only on a few occasions. Reference section quite helpful.

A nice little book of phrases for those who want to speak a little Norwegian in various settings, such as restaurants. The book also contains useful information and advice here and there, and the layout is fine too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning Norwegian 13 Aug. 2008

This book is well worth purchasing if you are making a trip to Norway. Although it is basically written for students, I, who am not a student, found it very helpful when I made my trip to this country.
