About the Author

Jason Born is the author of Lions & Devils, a series of adventure novels exploring the heroes and villains of the Muslim invasion of Europe in the Eight Century. The Wald Chronicles is a research-intensive set of historical novels detailing the Germanic tribesmen and their struggle against and improbable triumph over Rome. All three books in the series - The Wald, Wald Afire, & Wald Vengeance - are available now. He is also the author of The Norseman Chronicles, a scrupulously researched set of historical novels telling the story of the Viking, Halldorr, who simply desired a warm hearth and a plump wife, but found that fate gave him so much more. Jason lives with his own plump wife and three skinny children in the Midwest. He is currently hard at work writing his next historical novel.

There are three books in this ‘saga’ (The Norseman Chronicles) - The Norseman, Paths of the Norseman and Norseman Chief. They chart the life and loves of the hero - Halldorr who is nearly 100 when he writes his story (I hate it when authors do that). That said, they are well written and researched giving vivid detail of life in these times and locations (no detail so no spoiler) and the battles that are spread through the series. However there is just enough for 3 books, rather one really good one so I have done the same review for all. Unfortunately for me I'm a bit OCD about finishing books so I will get there, in the end.

Just finished, seems I read all three books in a week that's how much I enjoyed the Norseman Chronicles. I just couldn't put them down, A brilliant read, I loved the action, the historical facts and the characters. These books are highly recommended. Now to find out what else Jason Born has written I am now his number one fan.

A very good read again if you have read the other two books by Jason. You will be used to his style of writing by the time you get to this book and get right into the book and not distracted by his style of writing. I also learned some more history and although much of the book is fictional but it is also based on recent discoveries in North America.

Our hero now embarks on being a settler and on to being a recognised leader. From taking the first steps to securing his new tribe a lot of brutal action takes place an insight of our tough and savage life actually was.

This book is very good but I have only given it 4stars because it is not quite as good as the first two in the series. I thought at one stage it was grinding to a halt but then it picked up again. It is still good as the end to the series. I just saw another by this author called "The Wald" and have downloaded it.

The Norseman Chronicles are great. Except for needing information on characters from earlier books the books themselves could almost be stand alone stories.
They give a unique viewpoint as to who got to North America/Canada first.

Enjoyable escapist fiction. Final book in the trilogy following the life of berserker Halldorr.
Becomes a series of warrior encounters towards the end and is occasionally difficult to follow.
Battle scenes are graphically described.
Good value and worth reading.

I was fed up reading about Tudor and Plantegenot history and saw this trilogy of books. I found the story great. Characters were interesting and I learnt a lot about Vikings. Read all three books back to back and I am sorry the story has ended.
