At last the trilogy of the Concannan sisters is available in one bind up edition. The Born In series is possibly one of my favourites of Nora Roberts books set in Ireland, as an author she has a knack of making the place in this case a village in County Clare seem real and authentic without resorting to stereotypes of Ireland that seem more in place on a box of Lucky Charms.
Maggie and Brianna are sisters who haven't had the best start in life, their mother is a cold tyrant who mentally abuses her daughters and their father is a dreamer who is their only warmth in a cold and sterile family. Thanks to her father, who made sacrifices to send Maggie to Venice for a glass blowing apprenticeship, Maggie is a much sought after artist who only feels alive when she is creating.
Born in Fire is Maggie's story deals with her fears of love after witnessing her parent's cold marriage and enduring the brunt of her mother's abuse and blame for her birth ruining her life. Everything changes for the two sisters when their father dies in Maggie's arms with another woman's name on his lips. The death leaves a hole in their lives, until Rogan a suave Dublin gallery owner wants to support Maggie's work. Sparks fly between the temperamental artist and the rigid business man and not just in the boardroom or workshop as the two begin an uneasy romance.
Rogan is a handsome if arrogant character but the romance between him and Maggie is touching and you really root for the characters wanting to knock their heads together until they admit they are perfect for one another.
Born In Ice picks up where Fire left off, this time the focus is on the quieter sister Brianna whose only ambition is to run a guest house.

i cannot even begin to express the emotions that i experienced when reading nora roberts's three part tale of three extraordinary sisters. i was captivated by the sisters's personal turmoil and absolutely in love with the three drop dead gorgeous men in their lives. i was mesmorized by the beautifully detailed images of ireland that nora roberts presented in the book. i recommend this book to anyone looking for exceptional reading.

The three stories have good plots as always from Nora Roberts but there were a couple of disappointments. The first is that the Irish characters speak American English, I can only assume this is some kind of sop to US readers who are presumably unable to understand UK English, the effect however is to make them a little less believable. Secondly, the reader picked for this Audio Book version tends to use the same voice irrespective of who is speaking. As a consequence it can be hard work making sense of the dialogue at times - hence the four stars.
