It is so great to be able to "paint" on my ipad. I love how it feels just like the real thing with none of the mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the way to go 2 July 2012
By Joshua S. Gillman - Published on Amazon.com

First of all, I am concerned about how the negative reviewers of this product are using/storing their brush. I have had my Nomad Brush for over 6 months now and I am using it religiously with little to no wear (and I bought mine before the case was available). Secondly, if you are expecting a Wacom Cintiq/Modbook experience from this product then your expectations need to be reset. Go ahead and spend the $1000+ to buy another tablet.

If you are looking for a brush to work with your iPad/already purchased tablet and want to actually feel like you are painting, then this is the way to go. The long tip is great for more abstract/larger area work and the really short tip is great for detail and everything else (I use this side the most). I cannot stress enough how much feeling like you are painting is a great motivating factor when using my device to create art. Like picking up any new medium it takes a little time to get used to but it is so well worth it.

After using this brush and the Artrage app to create my first iPad painting, I emailed the owner of NomadBrush a copy of it and he featured my painting on the Nomadbrush.com art gallery! I do not mean this as a plug, the message I am trying to convey is that the immense attention focused on the product is also focused on the people who use it.

I cannot recommend this product enough, to people who are looking for a unique experience on their iPad/Tablet to make art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, if you have realistic expectations 16 Sept. 2012

I received my Nomad Compose yesterday. I did not buy this as my primary stylus, but rather as an additional one to work with the App I use for drawing/painting on my iPad 3 (The New iPad). I use ProCreate, but there are other good art apps out there.

I loved working with it, as a practicing professional artist using a brush seems intuitive for me. The brush moves smoothly over the screen, and is thus much better than a rubber tipped stylus, which can tend to catch and skip. The long brush attachment was excellent for filling in background, or for broad sweeps of color, and the Glide Bevel Tip gave good accuracy for finer, more detailed work. You could hand write notes with the Glide Bevel Tip if you wanted to, although other styli might be better suited if this is what you are looking for in a stylus.

If you love drawing and using art apps on your iPad, you wont be disappointed with this product. I can see that if you were trying to use it for everyday navigation, and as a general purpose stylus, then you could get frustrated. In any case, this is not the intended use of this brush stylus.

It definitely gave greater versatility, and more control, than my finger for drawing. There was no skipping, or jumping on the lines I drew. Yes, there is some lag, but that is the iPad's issue, not the fault of the brush.

Unlike others, I didn't find I had to press overly hard, except perhaps while navigating around the app, and I saw no damage to my screen even then. I don't use a screen protector. Having said that, you should always clean your screen with a micro-fiber cloth before you use any stylus. Most screen damage is caused by particles left on the screen that are scratched into the surface when you move the stylus around, not by the stylus itself.

The reality is that the development of styli for use on tablets is in its infancy, and I think we all look forward to further advances in this particular field. I think the Nomad Compose is an excellent step in the right direction, and I commend the company for their great product.

I agree with previous reviewers who suggest that if you want greater refinement for your drawing, then pay the money for a Wacom Cintiq.

All in all, I found this an enjoyable and effective product to use, and I was really excited by the results I achieved. It has quickly become indispensable for me while drawing on the iPad. For sketches on the iPad, using an art app, I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Qualfied Great Product 21 May 2013
By Basin Research - Published on Amazon.com

Our illustrator loves the product. However, we have to qualify the review since we received two damaged brushes as a result of shipping. The product ships in a lightweight plastic box that is prone to opening in the bubblepak package during transit. The box squeezes open, the brush holder pops out of its retaining clips and the tip of the brush is
then free to slam back and forth or is trapping in the box opening leading to brush crushing and bending - not very nice. This could be cured by a stronger crush proof box or perhaps a cardboard box could be used to ship the product.
The product is great but it took two tries to get an undamaged product and even then we had to "massage" and tweak the bristles to get them back to a useable form. Replacement brushes are pending according the manufacturer.
So, great product, but suggest that you buy in person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great brush, but tablets have a little catching up to do 17 April 2012
By Nicholas Jainschigg - Published on Amazon.com

I'm a professional artist, illustrator, and art teacher in the business since 1983 and working digitally since 1997. I got the Nomad brush to begin using my Asus Transformer Prime (nVidia Tegra 3 processor) as a sketch pad. The brush is great--lightweight aluminum, well made and sturdy, with well-seated hair for both the more open and more stylus-like tips, Unfortunately, using AutoDesk sketch software for Android, there is still a little too much lag for the process to be entirely comfortable, as on a Wacom Cintiq or Modbook. It's only a matter of time, though, and I'm looking forward to using it on my next tablet, or perhaps some better-optimized software.

The only thing that might improve this brush is a truly "travel" version with a protective sleeve. It looks as though the hairs would take quite a beating in an average pen-case or computer bag.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as effective as the original Nomad 13 May 2013

I loved the original yet crude Nomad brush. However, this new version is very cool and much better made with a metal handle. Unfortunately the brush hairs are not nearly as responsive. I like the case and the new design but the execution is not as responsive as the first. I still recommend this brush for artists who feel a little awkward using fingers to create on the ipad.
