Product Description

The DT-910 is a wireless charging stand for “Qi” compatible smartphones that recharges batteries without the need to plug wires into the device itself as power is transferred from the back panel to the phone whenever it’s standing in the cradle.

Since the phone is in an upright position facing the user, it can easily be used while charging takes place.

One smart feature of DT-910 that makes using a phone even easier is the Near Field Communication (NFC) tag on its base, which makes instant connections between the stand and enabled phones, skipping the need to go through menus or set-up steps.

One example of how the NFC feature in DT-910 improves the user experience in a unique way is brought to life when launching the Nokia Accessories App. This installed app can be set-up to automatically launch a chosen pre-installed application when the stand is in use.

For example, users can select the clock, various social media feeds, weather info, Skype, their calendar, to synch photos with SkyDrive or any 3rd party application to start while the device is facing them and charging at the same time.

The assigned app is tied to the individual DT-910, meaning that the charging stand at home may launch the clock while the DT-910 at the office launches the cloud-storage sync from the same smartphone.

Nokia Accessories App supports the following products: Nokia Purity Pro Stereo Headset by Monster, JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker for Nokia, Nokia Wireless Charging Stand DT-910, Nokia Reaction Bluetooth Headset and JBL PlayUp Portable Wireless Speaker for Nokia. A Sci-Fi way to charge your phone

I really like this device and was one of the reasons I went for a Nokia when my contract was up. It does feel a bit 'space age' to drop your phone down and it starts charging, doing away with the fiddle of either plugging in a power cable or trying to line up the power port on a docking station. The reason I have dropped it 1 star is two fold. Firstly I can't drop it by half a star so the rating should 4.5 out of 5 and the second is more of a complaint of the phone. There is an NFC tag that will launch an app on the phone when you tap the two together. The annoying thing is that there are a few steps in between the tap and having the selected app running. A better system would be that as you put the phone on the stand the selected app just runs automatically with out any further input needed from the user. Better still would being able to schedule in different apps at different times of day, for example run the Time/Calender/Weather screen saver during the day and a white noise generator at night.
In conclusion, the charger itself is a very good bit of kit and works really well, my only gripe is Nokia's poor implementation of the NFC feature.

Much more than a novelty gadget

The stand itself is made out of sturdy high quality material, with a shiny piano black finish and refined design details such as high friction rubber on the base where the phone stands to prevent it slipping off, the reclining angle of the back is just right, and there's a small white LED at the base that lights up on placing the phone, which in my opinion is a bit too bright especially in a dark room. The supplied power cord is of adequate length and just plugs into the base via a small connector.

I purchased this wireless charger mainly for the 'cool' factor but this stand goes beyond. At the end of the day I just tap my 920 against the base and put it on the stand to start charging. The NFC tag starts off the custom app that enables the phone to double as an alarm clock with beautiful weather icons, charging info and a feature to dim the display for the night. Of course you can program the phone to launch any other app.

Charging the phone can take considerably longer than a normal charger, up to 1.5 times longer in my experience, but that doesn't bother me since I leave it for the whole night. I must say that my phone has a 1-2 mm thick protective hard plastic shell which I leave on during charging, so the phone is not in direct contact with the charging pad, and I don't know if removing it would charge the phone faster. Another positive point is that all the phone's radios still work while charging i.e. you can still make and receive calls, messages, emails, downloads, etc. and bluetooth connections still hold well without interference.

Great charging stand, shame about the NFC

Finally, a charging stand that is so effortless to use. No need to align holes and protuberances, just place your phone on it and it's charging. Simple and effective. My only gripe (which is why it didn't get 5 stars) is with the NFC implementation. To enable the NFC tag to be read, the phone needs to be taken out off the stand and placed flat against the base. Once the NFC tag has been read, it can be placed back on the stand. It would have been nice if the NFC tag was actually on the back of the stand rather than the base so that you just had to place your phone on the stand and the tag would be read. Oh well, something for the next version, I guess.

Works pretty good, the 'teeth' holding the phone in place could be a bit larger as it is easy for the phone to slip off the charger if you don't place it on very carefully. Sometimes too the phone appears to be charging and in fact is not and I haven't quite worked out whether this is the phone of the charger. A shame too that you can't fold it up when you go travelling and I live in terror of getting it out of a suitcase broken because it got squashed. A huge improvement though on fiddling with wires and allows me to use the phone as a night clock.

Quicker than I thought too - charges around 75% as quickly as the wired charger (AC-50) supplied with the phone.

As for charging inside a protective case, I would say as long as the case contains no metal rear strengthening plate, the phone will charge inside the case.

Having used wireless charging, I won't be going back to wired charging (well, perhaps in emergencies!)

The phone and charging plate do get a little (but only) warm to the touch whilst charging, but once charging has finished (the white LED turns off on the front of the stand) everything cools down again.

Once the phone is fully charged and the charging light goes out, if you leave the phone on the stand, charging will turn on and off periodically to keep the battery fully topped up.

There's only one negative point I can find so far and that is the low voltage DC supply cable from the "wall wart" power supply unit to the charging plate is proprietary but replaceable if needed.

Functional. Great bit of kit. Only reason it gets 4/5 is that im not sure about its energy efficiency (though its not a big device so i doubt its that expensive on electricity costs.) i am reviewing the white one here so cant really mark it down on this factor but if i remember correctly it only comes in white and black and i bought a yellow 920 but musnt grumble because it is a nice looking bit of kit. Works as advertised. Looks the biz. Saves hassle of connecting cables FOR the EQUIPMENT it is designed for- cant comment for other manufacturers phones using same principle if there are any.
