Damian is a third-generation Hispanic, from California, who has been in trouble with the law for attacking his abusive former brother-in-law. He is earning a living as a busboy in a upper-class hotel when he first sees Savannah, sitting with an older man. Damian assumes this is some sort of sugar daddy relationship, and as beautiful as Savannah is, that could have been the end of it. However, when is clearing trays from the top floor of the hotel, he hears a woman screaming 'Fire' and runs to assist. He finds Savannah being tortured by two sadists. Such is his nature, he rescues her and they spend an blissful afternoon on the beach.
Savannah was not in the hotel of her own volition. The hotel is owned by her father, who has been abusing her since the disappearance of her mother when she was eight. Before meeting Damian, she had already decided to kill herself, but Damian gives her something to put value back in her life.
Cut to present, and Damian has fought in Iraq, and lost a foot. He has PTSD, and a whole load of issues that he is trying to work through. Savannah has run away from her father and his associates, but circumstances bring Damian back into her life and she has to run to him for help. After Savannah sees how BDSM techniques are used to help another victim of abuse deal with her issues, she wonders whether this may be how she can regain control over the nightmares that have started to plague her again.Read more ›
This isn't an easy story to read. Savi's background is cruelly tainted and disturbing to the core and her relationship with Damian is so powerful and at the same time tragic.
Damian knows only one way to help Savi to become whole again and that is by using his SM skills to help her to feel once again. He saw the horrors Savi endured on one occasion but has no idea how horrific her life has been and through SM he slowly starts to understand the terrifying experiences she faced at the hands of her father and Lyle.
After escaping the clutches of her father and Lyle, Savi is trying to live a peaceful life but that changes after coming face to face with Damian. After being found by her father once again, Savi has no option but to turn to Damian and his friends for their help.
After observing a particularly harrowing scene at the Masters at Arms Club, Savi realises that she too wants to be healed and Damian slowly starts to work with her to help her to face her demons.
This series is not at all what I expected it to be. I tend to be put off by BDSM stories but I suspect until now I've probably never read anything of any standing. There is so much more to these books than BDSM and blatant sexuality, they are truly emotive and thought provoking.
I am still desperate to read Luke and Cassie's story but I'm off to read more about the enigmatic Marc and Angie.
The bones of the story are excellent, although some parts are harrowing and cover sexual abuse of a young child (Savannah) through to that child becoming a young woman when her father and his business partner, the abusers, "rent" her out to sadists for their pleasure. She is rescued by Damian, this is covered in book one - Masters at Arms.
As with the other books in the series the main location is the Masters at Arms BDSM club and Savannah (Savi) and Damian provide some very hot and emotional "scenes" in this place.
Having read the books in order, which is what the author advises us to do at the very beginning, this is the only one I have given only three stars to. As mentioned in my first paragraph I found the ending very tedious, it has the feeling that you make you want to say, please "just cut to the chase" when approaching the end, I am sure that there is an awful lot of padding and by the time I reached 88% I think I know what will happen in the end. I also felt that this book wasn't quite as well written as the others, in some ways it had an elementary feel to to "he said", "she said", "he did" and "she did" etc., etc.,
So there you have it, an excellent story line but the flesh on the bones could, I felt, have been more succinct.
Adam,Karla, Luke,Marc and Angel are still involved in the story throughout.
Stunning cannot wait for more!

The story was heart warming, whilst having kinkyness it wasn't sordid. So much truth of what happens behind closed doorsPublished 7 months ago by Chris.S
