The book itself is a hardback, about magazine sized, and tells the story of Georgia, who notices a mystery, and investigates.
The story is told in verse, with sensible vocabulary and a readable metre (both for the reading out loud as an adult, and for my daughter reading alone). The pictures bring the book to life, and it's no exaggeration to say that each picture could easily be removed from the book and stand alone as a picture on a child's wall. With endearing characters, great artwork, and a story to match, this is the perfect book for budding readers at Halloween. Our daughter (5) needed a little help with some words, but loved it.
And then there is Georgia. Georgia is calm, rational, and level-headed. Her reasoned sleuthing shows us that as well as a determined nature, this central character has smarts. She is simply fantastic.
For all the mysteries that this world holds, I give you this certainty – Less frightful, more delightful, No Such Thing deserves a spot at the bedside of your favourite little horrors!
