I grew up with Jim Davidson on in the background as my parents were fans of his, my Dad who is in his 70s had a very similar outlook on life and the same sense of humour however my dad always knew when and where he could get away with cracking jokes when it came to race and sexuality. Back then it was acceptable to make these jokes however in today's day and age it's not and JD has been punished for something that happened in a time when it was acceptable. I really took to JD when he entered the celebrity big brother house, I'm not shy in being open that I am a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of my brother, three of us over a 30 year period and when all this with Saville erupted it soon became apparent a lot of people were making false claims and sadly JD fell into this trap. His come back was a come back like no other, I purchased this book late in the evening and had finished by the following evening. It's a very intimate account of what really happened during operation ewetree. How it effected him emotionally, financially, how the British public automatically assumed he was guilty, theatres pulling any dates scheduled etc and all of this happening before any real investigation had happened. In the book he goes into great detail regarding the methods he used in proving his innocence, he hired private investigators, searched his way thru years of paper work from all of his gigs and travel plans to prove he wasn't even in the country at the time of one claim. He knew he was innocent and put some serious amount of graft in proving so. It's a hard read at times as he tells us in such a way that he makes you feel as though you were right there with him, you feel his pain and emotion but of course this wouldn't be a JD book without that famous wit and humour chucked in!Read more ›

As 2012 draws to a close Jim Davidson is waiting to go on Celebrity Big Brother in an attempt to revive his flagging career, his older brother falls ill, his dog dies and he learns via the press he's being investigated by Operation Yewtree. To make matters worse at the start of the new year, the day before entering the Big Brother house, he ends up in a cell.

Regardless of how you view Davidson it's worth suspending your prejudices and reading this book. First because in parts it's very funny. Second it provides an inside, and quite disturbing, look at a police investigation from the point of view of the accused. Third it will shake your faith in the 'innocent until proven guilty' basis of British justice.

It's written in a rather chippy style which can become a bit wearing and at times it borders on rant. You can almost forgive the latter given that Davidson was faced with some absurd allegations which the police seemed determined to pursue regardless of the facts.

Whether or not there has been an establishment witch hunt in the wake of the Jimmy Savile revelations is open to question. However, this book will certainly make you question the workings of the justice system and - although you may not be persuaded to like him - you'll come away with a new found respect for Jim Davidson.

As an ex-police officer I am dismayed that anyone should be put through this nightmare.
I often tell people that if they think the judicial system in the United Kingdom has anything to do with justice, fairness or the truth they are mistaken. It has to do with theatre!

Loved this! Came to it after seeing JD on CBB this time last year, having my feelings about him as a good guy restored. I loved him when young - we're of an age and both from SE London - but over the years, like many others, I found he'd fallen off my radar, except when popping up, via an unsympathetic press, and often coming across less than well. There's no doubt that on CBB, with that negative media prism gone, he showed us that, actually, he's a pretty decent bloke, which made me even more keen to hear what he had to say personally about the events of 2013. And I genuinely struggled to put it down. Yes, at the outset, the writer in me wanted to tippex out all his exclamation marks, but once I was able to ignore them, it was a lively, brutally honest and completely engrossing read - quite an achievement when we already knew the outcome. I also felt humbled by the extent of his charitable work, which is considerable, and have a LOT of time for his wife, who seems lovely. What a delightful surprise of a book. Booking for his next panto forthwith :)

I don't care for Jim Davidson's style of comedy at all but here is a good example of how a witch hunt works. Clearly some of the un-named women in this story have made up or completely over exaggerated their story for the purposes of grabbing money from a morally inept press. At the end of the day it is he, though innocent, who was found guilty by the press and he who has lost a considerable amount of money when there was no case to answer.

I picked up this book when things in my life were not at their best and it reminded me of the old saying,
There is always someone worse of than yourself.
It turned my problems into small potatoes!!!!!!

Whilst he isn't my favourite comedian I have a lot of time for Jim Davidson's work ethic and his support of forces entertainment. I found this story interesting, not so much from the Operation Yewtree aspects as in the way that sow business works. It has kept me amused in quiet moments this week.
