5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful 29 Jun. 2013
By Colebean - Published on Amazon.com

As a woman who grew up in a church and also Christian school setting it's refreshing to hear about someone who has been through some of the same "rebellion" & soul searching I have.Lauren sucks you into her world and doesn't apologize for the way things were in he life. It's raw it's very truthful and open. Definitely would recommend it to any woman but especially if you have lived through a religious background and have found yourself searching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Well Done, for What it Is 25 Feb. 2014
By S. Ridout - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book is not a romance, or a comedy. Although it contains some romantic and humorous aspects, it is much more a drama -- one of coming of age and self-discovery.

To readers not raised in a fundamentalist religious, sexually suppressive background, this book will probably not make much sense. But for those of us who can relate to the heroine's feelings and experiences, it is a very cathartic and insight-inducing read.

This book was not fun. It was not happy. It was not an easy read. But am I glad I took the time to read it all the way through? Heck, yes!

Sometimes the mark of a truly great novel is not its entertainment value, but the way the ideas, scenes and characters continue to haunt the reader for days and weeks after the book is finished, not in a negative way, but in a thought-provoking journey of increasing appreciation for the book's depth of understanding and stark honesty.

This was one of those books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your Grandma's Novel 7 Oct. 2014
By Spencer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Lauren reports on experiences that shaped her as an adult. Her experiences weren't the same as everybody else- and the book doesn't read in a way that is at all predictable. There are isolated portions where some energy is required to get beyond the narrative style and choice of vocabulary to access the underlying message, but the task is well rewarded. Every page is skillfully executed, even when the subject matter is somewhat unconventional. Lauren has a unique and specific view of the world that is well considered and absolutely authentic. This is a memoir, not a work of fiction. The most satisfied readers might be those who appreciate the difference.

Evaluate this book on its own merits, and expect to be pleased. Invest a little, profit a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars no characters I cared about. 11 Jan. 2014

Sorry, but I kept waiting for someone to grow up. Boring, self centered, immature people going nowhere slowly. Finished the book but I don't know why.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye Opening 10 July 2014
By Linda T. Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The reason I chose this rating is because this book seem to share real life experiences and causes you to truly think about the world around you and how/why people do some of the things they do and for what extreme. Some parts where extreme although so true in the real world. Closed-minded people should read this book.
