Product description

Drawn from the more exotic side of house, this eighth instalment of the Nite:life series pulses to a superior crop of sun-kissed soul and Latin rhythms. Having already asserted his style credentials by giving the theme from the film American Beauty a sultry house make-over for Top 10 single "American Dream"--under the guise of Jakatta, one of his many production monikers--DJ Joey Negro here distils an evening's worth of impeccable listening. Slinking from the jazz-funk swing of Jon Cutler's "It's Yours" and the salsa party horns and cow-bell beats of Negrocan's "Aquela Esquina", to the classic funk styling of David Bendeth's "Feel the Real" and Fini Dolo's smouldering "Blow", clichés and chart tunes are deftly avoided in favour of grooves that are as rare as they are smooth. Perhaps some are too smooth for the dance floor; although the glistening disco of "Inspired" from Satoshi Tomiie and Sandy Riviera & Jose Burgos's "Jazz It" ride a compelling bass beat. But that's part of the charm of the ever-present 1970s jazz-fusion vibe--it'll sound just as good in the living room as it will in style-conscious bars everywhere. --Dan Gennoe
