I cannot believe one has to order this film from across the Atlantic! There is no justification whatsoever for not having this title available in the United Kingdom.
It's a truly great film by the veteran Schlöndorff, which stays true to his usual themes of characters facing impossible dilemas, and how they reach their (impossible) decisions. The level of dilema he subjected his characters in Circle of Deceit is plain in comparison with what the Catholic priest has to face in The Ninth Day. Remarcable!
I watched this film and loved the lead actors (Ulrich Matthes and August Diehl) in it. They were perfectly cast. The film is bound to make even the most hard hearted of people cry in some places. I would suggest this film to anyone.
