Splatter enemies and claim your turf as the ink-spewing, squid-like characters called Inklings in Nintendo's new third-person action shooter game for the Wii U console. Challenge your friends in chaotic four-on-four matches, in which the goal is to get your ink on as many places as possible and claim your turf, all while strategically submerging yourself in your team's colours and blasting your enemies. This is a colourful and chaotic online third-person action shooter, exclusively on Wii U.
- Team up and take on other teams in an action-filled battle to cover the level with as much ink as possible. Spray walls to access hard-to-reach areas.
- Covering more territory with ink unlocks powered-up super weapons that can be used to attack rivals or cover more turf.
- Strategy is everything. Defeat enemies to splatter them in an explosion of ink, covering more turf for your team. But choose wisely: Players who only go after the enemy might find their turf redecorated in their enemies' colours.

- Select between multiple control options on the Wii U GamePad controller, including using gyroscopic controls to look around, allowing for better aiming and control.

From the Manufacturer
Strategy is everything. Defeat enemies to splatter them in an explosion of ink, covering more turf for your team. But choose wisely: Players who only go after the enemy might find their turf redecorated in their enemies' colours.
Covering more territory with ink unlocks powered-up super weapons that can be used to attack rivals or cover more turf. See where you've splattered—and what to cover next—on the Wii U GamePad controller's screen.
Transform into a squid to hide in your own ink, climb up walls, and move more quickly. Use ink blasters, ink bombs, ink rollers, and squid power to cover the most territory.
Customise your Inkling with different weapons and gear, complete with unique gameplay perks. With over 40 weapons and ten stages (plus more free content added on a regular basis) you're spoilt for choice!
Squad Battle and Private Battle matchmaking options open up new ways to enjoy Splatoon. In Squad Battle, players can participate in Ranked Battle rule sets with friends, rather than being teamed up with other players through a random selection.
In Private Battle, friends can splat it up in private, customisable matches. Two to eight friends can battle together by selecting their favourite map, mode and weapons. The number of participants ranges from 1v1 to 4v4, but teams don't have to be even: if the host chooses, he or she can select a 1v4, 1v2, or any other combination of players.
Splatoon also offers the chance to take on the evil octopus army in single-player mode, splatter octarians, solve ink puzzles and beat bosses!

I've played virtually every shooter out there; Call of Duty, Halo and so on, but Splatoon is the only one that is a pure joy to play. Each weapon is so unique - each one completely changes how you play the game! And thanks to Nintendo's biweekly (I think) DLC that's seemlessly added, Splatoon isn't going to run out of steam anytime soon! I love playing online just to unlock new stuff with my money :)
The single player campaign is extensive - around 20-30 missions, each unique and can teach you strategies that can be brought into multiplayer.
The only downside is the lack of 4-player local multiplayer. *sigh* if only, if only...
If you've seen this game in action and like what you see - DO NOT HESITATE! You'll get every pound of your money's worth if you like shooters.
See you online! 1, 2, 3, 4, I declare a turf war!
It's not Amazon or Nintendo hiking up the price but re-salers (Aka Scalpers). I managed to get the game for only £39.85 and had it shipped via Prime and I'd say it was actually worth the £39 I got it for.
The first part is the story, simple but fun.
The gameplay used throughout is it's gyroscope features which actually make aiming pretty fun but you can turn off this feature in the options menu on the touchscreen. Splatting bad guys has never been so much fun before and the colourful environments make the game feel that much cheery, however, the missing voice chat feature is a bit upsetting and it can lag on the main hub station but both of those can be easily fixed in the upcoming updates Nintendo has planned for the game.
Boss battles can be very easy but fun and the story missions are great, also, the amiibo that comes with the game unlocks a challenge mode in which you can unlock new costumes for your Inkling which is pretty awesome as with this amiibo you can get a full mech suit which just looks epic!
So please, don't be trusting those negative reviews because they mainly hate on the game because of the price, if you can get it cheaper else were then I'd recommend it because for only £29 for the standard edition, it's well worth the price.
In total there are 20 challenges to go through (inc. boss battles) as for the stages they're nothing new, just with different rules and settings to abide, plus being that you're using the Squid amiibo you can swim as much as you want throughout the stages regardless if you've painted it your colour or not. That's how badass it is (the green squid diving is just stunningly awesome as for its visual)!
As for the figure, it looks all right for a squid (I just wanted its content more so than the figure as I solely borrowed it). Almost forgot, you can unlock a costume of Squid in Yoshi's Woolly World which is basically all green though the eyes wear some dark makeup.
Firstly the game can appear very limited initially with a handful of weapons and levels, but Nintendo has supplied owners with a stream of free updates granting new weapons, accessories and levels at no cost! The game plays out extremely well 2 teams fight to control as much turf (land) as possible in a very short time limit, the aim of the game is not to real kill the other player but to get as much of your teams ink on the various walkways and paths.
The control scheme uses the gamepad motion in order to aim and it takes a short while to get use to this configuration. It works and on rare ocassions it does sometimes glitch but the majority of the time is perfectly fine. I have now invested nearly 80 hours into the game and continue to find it very rewarding.
I was not disappointed! This game really is new, fun, fresh and original. It is very simple, and the controls and mechanics do not have a learning curve of any sort; the only thing that can take some getting used to is using the motion-control aiming, which you can turn off anyway.
There is not much else to say about it because it is so simple, but basically it's really fun and addictive, and very cool to look at.
The only cons in my opinion are that the weapons all feel a bit limited; you only ever get one speciality for each one, so a gun with massive range, but low power and fire rate, and any other combination of these in any order. The special and sub weapons that I really like all come with weapons that I hate, so I have to stick with weaker weapons to get the "package" that I want. However, the way the abilities work and the way you can complement your gear set is pretty good as it lets you be better at what you choose as your role in the fight.
Occasionally, the game encounters major lag spikes, and you will be shooting an area without anything happening sometimes for up to 30 seconds at it's worst, but most of the time it's all good. Other side effects of this are being killed long after evading an enemy, which can get a bit annoying and confusing.
