The Last Story
The Last Story is the latest action-packed RPG to come from Hironobu Sakaguchi featuring time-honoured RPG gameplay and story elements but also adds modern twists to the traditional RPG formula. Customise your items and character and master the innovative combat system to succeed in this epic new RPG universe.
During The Last Story you take control of Zael and from time to time his partners, a band of mercenaries in search of their fortune. You undertake a series of missions and explore Lazulis Island and its sprawling medieval capital Lazulis City, while trying to help Zael achieve his ultimate goal of leaving his life as a mercenary behind and becoming a true knight.
The Last Story features a high level of customisation for both items and characters appearance. There are two main ways of customising your party’s equipment including visiting blacksmiths to increase their abilities and using dyes to change their colour. By visiting the various blacksmiths who are situated within Lazulis City and within some dungeons you can upgrade your weapons and armour.
Unlike many other RPGs, The Last Story not only features a thrilling single player campaign with an engaging story, but also Online Multiplayer options including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Co-Op modes. Now you can battle against or alongside up to five other RPG fans from across Europe using your own customised character from the Single Player game.
Master the innovative combat system, customise your character and gather items you discover throughout the game, and by utilising new features in The Last Story you will be able to take on the many enemies and bosses that can be found across Lazulis Island. Combat mixes traditional melee, ranged and magic attacks that are often found in RPGs with an innovative cover system and unique magical abilities. You will have to master a mysterious ability called The Gathering to help Zael and his band of mercenaries complete their missions and battle vast bosses by discovering their weak spots, picking a suitable strategy and using team work to bring them down.

If you like role playing games this is a must have, and I really enjoy it, finding it similar to Xenoblade Chronicles.
(If you have played that, you will enjoy this)
The game has a nice balance of serious moments and gags, that really keeps you reeling and coming back to play it again.
I.e. A bowgun which shoots banana peels causing people to constantly slip over, and shout at you.
(Isn't that a good enough reason to get it?)
As well as a nifty arena section where you aim to take out multiple enemies with your selected party members.
The backstory and cutscenes to the game are also well done, and give an insight to the characters past (and present), and really makes you feel like you're there in the moment.
All in all, if you're looking for a great game to invest your time in, why not make it this one?
The graphics sometimes look muddy and not as sharp as I am use to from playing on my XBOX but when the game switched to a rain setting I was visually impressed, the distortion as the droplets hit the screen really made me think that I had been overlooking my Wii and I have to say that after that moment I start to notice plenty of nice touches which show that a lot has gone into the title which you can easily take for granted. The menu system is the best I've seen in an RPG game end of... it's very slick and well executed like the rest of the game.
Sound is another stand out with the English voices doing a cracking job and the way conversations are shown are stylishly done as well.
I really am ashamed that I have neglected my Wii when games like this which really do prove that it has plenty of potential if gamers really give it a chance.
Highly recommended can't wait to complete it.
Strategy in battle - check.
Simple and intuitive controls - check.
Nice graphics - check.
Good characterization - check.
Balance between free-play and narrative structure - check.
Beautiful world - check.
Neither silly, nor overly serious - check.
Interaction with environment - check.
Plus the dialogue is relevant without being intrusive.
Succeeds where games like the much touted Xenoblade fails (which IMHO is too sandboxy, and has little environmental interaction).
Overall this feels like the perfect fusion of eastern and western style RPG.
RIP Squaresoft, Atlus and Mistwalker will deliver jrpg that I actually love and enjoy, FF13 was the last game i bought that trashcan company. Get it if you missed the good old FF!!
it's still being sold at a premium (along with the other two games that made up the trio of best RPG games on Wii. Pandoras Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles.)But it's worth tracking down to see this excellent game in action.
Highly recommended to any self respecting RPG nut.
