An essential upgrade for Wiii U gamers

I should have bought one of these ages ago! Wii U Gamepad battery life is notoriously bad, and I often had to cut gaming sessions short when the standard battery gave up after 3-4 hours. With this new battery I've never had to stop gaming to recharge. I keep my gamepad on the charging stand which came with my console so it's always ready to use, and this larger capacity battery lasts for longer than I'm likely to play in one sitting. As an official Nintendo product I have complete confidence in it's quality. The battery comes with everything you need to remove the battery compartment cover on the gamepad and replace the original battery. The gamepad has enough internal space to fit this battery without needing a fancy redesigned back cover, which makes you wonder why Nintendo didn't use this battery in the first place. I guess it's fairly expensive for a battery, but if you're prepared to pay the price then it performs perfectly.

After one too many times of having to come off Xenoblade to recharge my gamepad I decided to shell out for this and although it does of course suck having to buy a battery that lasts more than a few hours I have not regretted it. Super easy to put in with a little screwdriver provided to take the back off the gamepad. Then you just unplug the old one, plug in the new one and sit it in the little nook created for it. BOOM, done.

Since putting it in I have been able to turn the brightness up on the gamepad and it has never run out while using it. Definitely an essential purchase if like me, you play games in monster sessions when you have the time.

Clearly, Nintendo put in a smaller capacity battery to save money, and to earn extra cash on getting people to buy this product.

That sucks.

However, as a product, this is easy to install (plug it in and then charge the Gamepad), and it does what it says on the packaging, extra hours of wireless gameplay, with just a small trade off in weight.

As the Wii U Gamepad Battery is not great with a) Long Gameplay and b) Holding a charge I decided to buy this & it's worth the price. Gaming time has been extended and the battery holds a charge. I recommend getting this product ASAP as Nintendo are known to suddenly stop producing products like this & it's best to get it for £20 odd instead of inflated prices when it's no longer available.

DO NOT buy a third party battery as they are cheap for a reason, they break your Gamepad.

Word of warning, be gentle with the Screwdriver as being too rough will damage the screw.

All I'm going to say on this is it's very easy to fit and adds much needed game time but Nintendo I'm knocking 2 stars off simply because this battery should come fitted as standard to the gamepad especially on the premium bundles. To open the battery compartment and see all that empty space is disgraceful and I'm not going to listen to anybody who decides to defend Nintendo on this. To have 3 hours gameplay on the original battery is just nuts and to pay £25 to get decent gaming time just smells of a money grab. So Nintendo do the right thing and start fitting this product as standard.

Screw one came out with ease, screw two was shredded with two turns of the screwdriver. Tried various methods (rubber band, larger screwdrivers etc, didn't try superglue method) the only way that screw is coming out is with a drill - a good one handled with care. Googled to find a few other people in the same boat - horror stories of £80+ bills for Ninty staff to do the drilling. I wasn't actually that bothered about the limited 'per session' battery life of the game pad (I have the pro controller too), I bought it principally to extend the 'overall' life of the game pad. I fear that this is no longer a hassle/risk free option for me. So I have requested a refund (which Amazon promptly supplied) and have returned the item effectively unused. Shoddy manufacturing aside, Ninty need to give clear guidance or options e.g. sell game pads separately (they could do some cool ones) or charge a fair price to remove a poorly made screw and/or replace a battery. I guess the real proof of the pudding will be the available options when the lithium battery does die (they all do in the end) and/or how helpful Ninty are when it happens. Right now, I can spare myself the hassle. I'm hoping that minimally, it would regardless work, if simply permanently plugged directly to the mains (annoying but doable) This may seem an unfair review of the item, but I like to keep/use all my consoles indefinitely; this item has made that more problematic.

I use to find with the old original battery my GamePad would last between two and three hours. It was a pain always having to plug the charger in so quickly, if I was in the middle of playing Mario Kart 8 online or doing a drawing on Art Academy. This High Capacity battery last a good six hours plus.
When I was installing the new battery, I saw this was the original one Nintendo intended to use. It fits into the back perfectly, where the old battery went in sideways and had a big gap either side of it. I guess Nintendo decided to do this, in order to help keep the costs of the Wii U console down as low as possible.

Si monta in un attimo con il piccolo cacciavite in dotazione, basta rimuovere 2 vitine dietro al gamepad e il gioco è fatto - occhio a non schiacciare il cavo del connettore mentre si richiude; una nota curiosa - la nuova batteria è grossa quasi il doppio dell'originale, ma il vano era evidentemente già stato studiato per ospitarla.

After reading mixed reviews on Amazon and online in general I was unsure of purchasing this item. I saw many people claiming the battery had the same if not less charge time than the original 1500mAH battery. I can safely and happily report this is not the case for my battery, I easily get 7-8(depending on brightness setting) hours of charge time out of it. Compared to the original batteries 3-4 hour charge this is amazingly convenient for me. With my job providing precious little free time to actually play a game it always annoyed me when half that time was spent charging a battery. With this battery I now play till i'm satisfied or it dies then it's time for bed anyway and charges while I sleep.

Installation was a breeze, clear instructions provided and size 0 screwdriver included in package. I am confident even someone who is not tech savvy in the least would have no problem at all installing this.

Bottom line = I would buy this again in a heartbeat and strongly recommend this to anyone looking for longer battery life.

Ich hab mich mit dem neuen Akku selbst zu Weihnachten beschenkt. Unmittelbar aus der kleinen, produktgemäß zugeschnittenen Verpackung entnommen, habe ich mit dem beigelieferten Schraubendreher das U-Pad rückseitig geöffnet und den alten - deutlich kleineren und damit etwas leichteren - Akku kurzerhand entnommen. Ein Handgriff reicht.

Dann schaut man interessiert ins Gehäuse und schmunzelt etwas über die zwei exakt zugeschnittenen Plätze für die Akku-Varianten. A bisserl Abzocke grinst einen da schon an, wenn man einen eher schwachen Akku mitliefert, der einen ob der eher kurzen Spielzeit manchmal doch nervt und dann die genau passende Lücke für einen 20-25€ teuren Alternativ-Akku vorsieht. Man könnte maximal damit argumentieren, dass die Konsole auf Gelegenheitsspieler ausgelegt ist. Persönlich hab ich für Casual Gaming aber den 3DS, von daher...

Nun ja, es lohnt sich dennoch! Denn wenn Madame neben einem mit dem WiiU Pro Controller in der Hand sitzt, der nach einmaligem Aufladen locker flockig eine Woche lang mehrere Stunden Arbeit verrichtet, wird man selbst doch leicht verbittert, das eigene U-Pad nach 1-2 Stunden erst mal stundenlang beiseite legen zu müssen oder eben mit Kabel weiterzuspielen.

Das ist hiermit Geschichte. Sofern man nicht gerade vorhat, einen 24 stündigen Stream zu veranstalten (hier rate ich dazu, das Ladekabel doch direkt dranzuhängen), kann man ganz beruhigt einen Abend lang ohne Angst mit der Partnerin zocken, ohne gegen den Pro Controller alt auszusehen. Das U-Pad ist mit dem neuen Akku gefühlt auch nur unwesentlich schwerer, sodass das Zocken weiterhin leicht von der Hand geht. Mein Ladekabel kann damit weiterhin an meiner Dockingstation für WiiMotes und das U-Pad stecken bleiben.

Fazit:
+ Akkuleistung für mindestens einen Abend (4-6 Stunden sollten locker drin sein)
+ Keine spürbare Gewichtszunahme des U-Pads
+ Kinderleichter Einbau

o Die Notwendigkeit der separaten Anschaffung zum entsprechenden Preis

- Keine, Qualität gut, Leistung gut, alles gut. "Sitzt, passt, wackelt und hat Luft."

Klare Kaufempfehlung für jeden, der einen längeren kabellosen Abend an seiner WiiU verbringen möchte.
