Only 4 stars because console had previously been owned by person and there were multiple names, all their data which I could not remove as there was a parents protective passnumber.
Eventually l learned how to remove this code on YouTube but instead of suggested websites I visited google chrome on my laptop to get a website.. Within seconds the console free of restriction and I set it my own parental control and then found the place on menu to delete everything using my own parental control and thus cleared the console so it was like new
The third party concerned with Amazon should really check these things are able to be used / set up right away. Thank goodness I bought early for Christmas to have time to sort hiccups like this out.
On the positive side I found the console easy to set up and the interface simple and easily familiar to use for anyone who's ever owned a Wii. The tablet/ controller is lightweight and the screen is bright and clear. The games I've purchased which includes mario kart and 3d world are visually bright and colourful and the gameplay is responsive via the tablet. It's truly a shame that the Wii U never captured the publics attention as it's a really good family oriented console
On the down side the console is rather pricey for it's power. Also by the time you add on extra costs such as motion sensors, wii motes and nun chucks the cost can really start to pinch although you can get unofficial brands for alot cheaper than the official ones but if you read the reviews for those there seems to be a higher risk of these controllers being less responsive than the branded nintendo ones. Another problem with the Wii U is that it seems a little messy with multiple wires coming from the machine including the power brick, motion sensor bar and tablet so it's a lot messier looking on my T.V stand compared to my Playstion 4. Over all a good if somewhat underrated console and
With the new nintendo Switch being released soon it may be worth investing in a Wii U for a bargain price.
When playing games I was a little disappointed with the Nintendo eShop - topping up a balance rather than just charging my credit card for purchases - probably to avoid a merchant fee for each transaction. I'm old school - I hunt down games at High Street stores instead of downloading them. Plus, with only 8GB memory on this console - I wasn't going to spend more on memory in the bundle option - it wouldn't be long before I'd need an external hard drive just for my games.
Overall, does what it says on the tin. It's a Games Console, nothing more.
Prior to this, I also noticed a glitch on the Wii U. The console will automatically disconnect from the wifi network, even though there was nothing wrong with my wifi connection. I mentioned this to the police officer who took the console.
Not only were we sold a stolen console but one with a glitch which prevented my son from playing online games!
The console is just like the other Premium Wii Us except for the Zelda-themed Gamepad which looks very nice indeed. The Gamepad looks a bit clumsy but feels very comfortable when held and the touchscreen is an invaluable input method for games and especially Miiverse. It enables fairly rapid typing and doodling to communicate with others on Nintendo's social network, Miiverse. These are the two aspects of the Wii U that have most impressed me and offer an experience you cannot replicate on any other console. Miiverse is great fun and enables you to connect with others even in wholly single-player experiences. You can share screenshots, tips and hints and your own experiences. You can ask for help and provide it.
In short, I am surprised by how good a console the Wii U is. I expected to enjoy Zelda and a few other exclusive but I can see this becoming my primary console as I love the Gamepad and Miiverse and there are plenty of quality games already released and many more to come this year and next. The Wii U is also fully backward-compatible with the Wii which has a huge library of brilliant and quirky games like Mario Galaxy, Okami, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Fire Emblem, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Trauma Center, Xenoblade Chronicles and many more. Most of the Wii peripheral are compatible and some (Wiimote Plus, Classic Controller) are used in many games.
The only criticisms I have so far relate to the lack of Dolby Digital or DTS. The Wii U only output LPCM 2.0 or 5.1 and unfortunately some amps and headphones (in my case) don't support this format. A modern amp will convert this output to the required format and pretty much everything will play LPCM 2.0 as basic stereo but there is no Dolby Digital in games or Netflix. I also have had some trouble with the WiFi connection but this could very well just be an issue with a very poor WiFi router. The battery life of the Gamepad is also fairly short (2-3 hours) but the AC Adaptor is quite long so it's not such an issue. You can buy an improved battery too if you really need it or the Wii U Pro Controller which has a battery life of 80 hours or so but I find the Gamepad features so useful that I would only buy a Pro Controller for multiplayer.
