I love words and I love writing, but I took a very long time to write my first book, because I had to research it first. That book became the best-selling history of Canada’s largest ranch, "Cattle Ranch: The Story of the Douglas Lake Cattle Company." It took me about eight years. I lived at Douglas Lake Ranch in British Columbia's Interior at the time.
"Cattle Ranch" by Nina Woolliams (I had a different surname then) was published in North Vancouver by Douglas & McIntyre in 1979, just as I was heading off to live on a sheep and cattle property in Australia. While I lived on that far continent, my book was listed as a finalist in Eaton's 6th Annual BC Book Award. It came out in at least four editions—a limited edition bound in Douglas Lake cowhide and printed on archival quality paper; a hardcover book with gold lettering on the cover; a hardcover book with black lettering on the cover, and a couple of paperback editions.
I always knew I would write another book; I just didn’t know when or what it would be about.
Thirty years after my first book was published, I was caught by the writing bug again, in 2009, just before getting really caught up in healing myself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, and working as a healer. The bug caught me gently at first, but then more strongly.
That second book is "Trust the Mystery: Questions, Quotes and Quantum Wisdom," hybrid-published in 2015 by Influence Publishing of North Vancouver. It took me only six years from idea to printed book, two years less time than the first one!
I am bringing "Trust the Mystery” out as a Kindle ebook in a revised edition in January 2017; it's now "Trust the Mystery: Raising Self-Awareness through Questions, Quotes and Quantum Wisdom." I enjoyed working on the html files of the ePub (prior to converting it to mobi format) as much as I enjoyed writing it and also editing it.
Words, words, words—I love them!
The ideas (book title, subtitle, headline, chapter topics, etc.) for my next book are already fully formed. I even have more than 40,000 words written. I am shopping it around among traditional publishers who have a spiritual readership. Luckily, I’m not in a rush.
Meanwhile another book idea came to me in December 2016 and I wrote out the first draft (about 15,000 words) in one week! Of course, it took me another month to revise it and to fix the html files of the ePub. But even so, five weeks is a different story from six years! That book is “Spiraling Self-Awareness: Personal Mission Revealed in 27 Days through Pythagorean Numerology's Partnership with the 9-Chakra System” and it goes on sale through Kindle Select on January 25, 2017.
Since the seventies, Nina Shoroplova has been on a spiritual path, interacting with others as a holistic nutritionist, a soul realignment practitioner, and a spiritual counselor. A truth seeker and a supportive guide, she is a book editor, a healing minister with the Anglican Church of Canada, and a co-leader of the Vancouver Chapter of the International Association for Near-Death Studies. Standing with one foot on esoteric soil and the other on Christianity, she seeks to fulfill her passions and to understand her essential part in the mystery through self-awareness.
Thriving on contrast, Shoroplova has embraced life on three different continents in the heart of cities and on the land. Her journey has taken her through a wide variety of teachings, from the bible to I Ching, texts old and new; through various trainings, courses, workshops, and readings; and through the lessons she has gained from the spiritual books she has edited.
When she’s not editing, blogging, singing, or acting, she’s with her offspring and grandchildren, or having a decaff mocha with her husband at their local Blenz coffee shop and writing her next book.
