Nikon D3300 Digital SLR Camera
At the heart of the D3300 is a 24.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor that has been designed without an optical low-pass filter (OLPF) to capture maximum image detail. Achieving exquisitely rich colours and smooth, natural skin tones, fine detail like hair or feathers are captured when paired with a NIKKOR lens. Such high-quality, high resolution images also ensure that every detail is crisp and clear, even if you crop or enlarge a portion of the photo.
An ISO of up to 12800 provided by the Expeed 4 image processing engine delivers ideal results even in low light.
High speed performance
Working to a high standard in all light conditions, High ISO capability (100-12800 and extendable up to 25600) delivers shots and sharp images of fast moving subjects even in poorly lit environments. Equipped with Nikon’s Expeed 4 image-processing engine, this system runs through countless operations at lightning-fast speeds to produce remarkably clear movie recordings and images with minimised noise and tonal gradation. With continuous shooting available at up to 5 fps, fleeting movements or expressions can be caught at just the right moment.
Make every shot a masterpiece
With the desire to inspire more photographers and help users to get the most out of feature-rich cameras like the D3300, Nikon’s Guide Mode offers clear step-by-step explanations and example images. Easily accessible through the mode dial found on top of the camera body, Guide Mode teaches you to set-up the camera, and shoot, view, delete or retouch images, as well as how to take portraits with background blur, freeze the action, or obtain clear shots in low light. Building confidence in budding photographers, Guide Mode makes it easy for anyone to learn how to master key features and controls, without ever needing to open the camera manual.
There are plenty of options for capturing fast-moving action with both Continuous shooting at up to 5 fps and D-Movie full HD video capability.
A variety of practical and innovative in-camera tools help to make the most of every shooting opportunity and ensure your pictures are captured to perfection. Some shots are so easy to miss but with the high-speed superior accuracy of the 11-point AF system the D3300 delivers razor sharp images by maintaining focus on even the smallest subjects, however unpredictable their movements may be. When facing extremely high-contrast lighting beyond the camera’s dynamic range, Nikon’s exclusive Active D-Lighting helps you maintain details in the highlights without losing them in the shadows. Composing beautiful images is made so much easier with Scene Auto Selector which automatically selects a scene mode suited to the shooting situation and subject. For added convenience, an icon of the selected scene mode, such as Landscape or Night Portrait, appears in the top-left corner of the LCD monitor.
Boost Your Creativity
The camera’s Special Effects mode makes it easy to add a touch of artistry. Have fun shooting distinctive photos and movies by choosing options such as Pop, which brightens colours by increasing the saturation; Toy Camera, which creates a retro effect; or Easy Panorama, which creates spectacular panoramas of vast landscapes or city skylines. The 13 different effects are incredibly simple to apply and can even be previewed in real time on the large LCD screen while shooting.
Fine-tuning of parameters like sharpness, saturation and hue is aided by Nikon's Picture Control System. Vivid, Landscape, Portrait and Monochrome options are illustrated here.
Movie action in HD
For those who want to take their creative vision to video, Nikon’s D-Movie function gives you compositional freedom. Recording in Full HD (1080p) at frame rates up to 50/60p, this versatile camera offers high performance. A wide range of movie applications and convenient custom controls, including Live View operation with subject-tracking AF or face-priority AF, ensure large format movie shooting at its best, even when the action speeds up. With the Nikon D3300 movies can sound as good as they look too. Thanks to the camera’s built-in microphone and compatibility with Nikon’s external ME-1 Stereo Microphone, it’s easy to capture footage with crisp, clear sound. When it comes to sharing your creation, the HDMI output lets you connect the camera directly to an HDTV to enjoy your movies and photos in high-definition.
Built for photographers on the go, the D3300 is a D-SLR which can be as easy to shoot with as a compact camera or smartphone. Nikon’s ergonomics, clear menus and one-touch buttons for frequently used functions, make operation quick and intuitively simple. In Live View, the large 7.5 cm (3 inch), 921K-dot resolution, LCD monitor displays incredibly clear images, while the wide optical viewfinder, offering approximately 95 per cent frame coverage and 0.85x magnification, makes it easy to capture perfectly timed photographs, when shooting fast action from a distance. With a body weighing just 410 g and a large comfortable grip to ensure a steady hold for both Live View and viewfinder shooting, you’ll be sure to take brilliant images with ease.
The AF system will keep your subject in focus and Face-Priority AF is available for portraits.
A range of Special Effects add a touch of artistry with thirteen different effects to choose from. The Pop and Super Vivid effects are shown here.

I had a good explore with all the options and I'm ready to begin photography.
This is a great beginner DSLR. Watch out when buying lenses though, some older lenses won't work with newer cameras!
The camera has an excellent range of auto and semi-auto settings and the Guide option is good for walking through some advanced skills. One minor issue is that the symbols on the buttons on the left hand side on the back all disappear in less than a month but Amazon replaced without a quibble and the new one is fine.
I invested in a Tamron 70-300 lens which is needed to supplement the Nikkor 24-55 that comes in the kit. The camera is much heavier than my bridge withbthis attached, which is to be expected so a tripod or a steady surface is needed for lower shutter speeds.
Overall an excellent camera with lots of potential for learning about digital photography. Patience is needed and I can highly recommend the 'D3300 for Dummies' book as a guide.
I personally foresee to stay on this model long, unless I develop an unexpected passion for photography.
The lens set is good for start and everyday use.
