These Nikon Action VII 8 x 40 CF Binoculars are simply the best I have ever looked through in 70 years!!!
The x40, coupled with the conventional prismatic design, delivers a very bright image whilst the 8x ensures that they are a fair magnification but still usable, handheld without resorting to a tripod.
Once focused, the total field of view is sharply in focus, to a high level, without twiddling the focus adjustment.
The pair I have just purchased are absolutely clear of visible chromatic aberration (purple colour fringing). I am amazed at the quality of the image.
A good quality carrying strap is provided (37.5mm {1.5inches} wide for carrying, narrowing to 10mm at the binoculars). This strap is well designed and reinforced to sit comfortably either round the neck with the binoculars hanging at waist level (adjustable) or hanging over the shoulder. A non slip rubber sewn on panel is incorporated and works brilliantly.
The weight including lens caps and strap is 805 Grams (1 Lb 12ozs).
A soft oblong carrying case is also included that can be fitted so that the strap is still usable to carry the binoculars over the shoulder or round the neck.
The lens caps for the eyepieces are coupled together and can be attached to the carrying strap permanently on one side whilst the other side has a split slot which can be clipped over the strap if you would rather put the lens caps in your pocket. The objective lens caps are 2 single units with split slots so that they can be clipped onto the carrying strap, after taking them off the lenses, to prevent losing them, or again put in your pocket if you prefer - a nice design touch.
The housings are rigid hard plastic mouldings with a soft finish and have indents which fit comfortably into the hands.

This is a nice, bright pair of binoculars which are about the right magnification for watching garden birds. This particular type, with the prisms rather than the compact 'straight through' is bulkier but brighter than the straight-through type for a similar price.

These have nice, deep fold back eye-pieces, which means they are ideal for people who wear spectacles. Naturally, you can adjust the diopter if you prefer to take your spectacles off. They come complete with a pair of lens caps and a non-rigid bag. Optical quality is good, as you would expect from Nikon, similar to that of their consumer-targeted camera lenses, though not up to the quality of their premium pro lenses: for that, you would need to go up the Nikon range.

They balance nicely in the hand, and are recommended for casual bird-watching or other day-to-day walking around and looking purposes. Specialist types do exist if your needs are more specific.

Good for every-day use and to bring on holidays. Not bulky. If you need binocular for wildlife close up, choose a stronger one than 8 X 40. Nikon is a trustable brand.

Bought as a present for my Mother. Wanted some entry level, user friendly binoculars for her to use for birdwatching - these came recommended on a number of birdwatching/optics websites. Easy to focus and have a stable, clear image. Fairly compact, but perhaps a bit weighty to carry around on a walk. Excellent value.

Very good optically and good to hold although a little larger than I was expecting. Only the case was a little disappointing ( no straps with the case ). If you don't mind the case it is an excellent buy.
