I converted to Nikon from Canon a while back and the Canon 35L was my favourite lens. I bought a D800e and was very happy with both the 14-24 and 24-70, they are so good I found it hard to justify the money for the 35 f/1.4 but wanted a faster lens for low light work so got one. I wished I had much sooner. It's a stunning lens. It's better than the 35L, it's sharp right away at f/1.4 and the 'look' of images are superb.

Some reviews here say their lens is noisy. Mine is virtually silent. Some people say on forums that the Canon 35L locks focus much faster. Not as I have found, it's at least as fast and even better, it hits focus perfectly virtually all the time so shooting wide open is fun again.

A real investment as far as I'm concerned :-)

I hesitated over buying this or the Nikon 24mm f/1.4, but in the end went for the 35mm as I thought I'd get more use out of it. The 35mm is a great compromise between the 50mm, which I typically find to narrow, and the 24mm, which can often be too wide.

The quality of the images from this lens are outstanding! They're tack sharp and nice and contrasty!

The lens is perfectly weighted and fits comfortably in the hand. It's just the right size that you can be discrete when using it, unlike say the Nikon 24-70.

The only negative, and it's a small one, is that the filter size is 67mm rather than the 77mm you'd expect for a professional lens.

Amazing street photography lens. When shooting before sunrise, the amount of light that you could capture was astonishing. Sharp even at f1.4.

should you buy this lens if you already have the mighty 24-70 f2.8 nikkor? no...

what can this lens do for you....

this lens is a "city" lens. It is elegant, short in form factor, yet powerful. very sharp, does not really need a hood, focuses fats (oh what a typo, I am not going to correct this.... focuses fats... what was I thinking... what a lens ability.... "can focus fats.....!!!"), focuses FAST was what I meant.... and has a 1.4 sharp aperture. The focal length of 35mm is great for city street views, does not require or need a tripod (easily handheld for extended amounts of time)
