Poor long term reliability
on 16 March 2017
Have owned this lens for years. On my D90, got some excellent shots and great as a travel lens. It's nowhere near as good optic ally as the 24-70 f1.8 I use now, but that's over twice the price. (although I paid £650 for this 18-200 when I bought it... It's much cheaper now!).
Reason for the 2 stars? After 4 years of use, (yes, just out of the extended warranty I purchased), the autofocus motor failed. Now won't autofocus. Through online searches, this seems to be an all too common problem.
Sent it back to Nikon for repair. They have quoted £200. I know it's not easy to take apart a lens, but I think this is extortionate.
Having been through 2 faulty DSLR bodies, and now this, I have found Nikon very poor for reliability and after sales service. Will probably jump ship to Sony mirrorless if my D750 dies.
