Product description
This 100 percent malt whisky is made using Nikka's proprietary all-malt production method. The main feature of the all-malt process is that top-quality malted barley is distilled in the coffee still instead of corn which is the usual ingredient. The result is a whisky made entirely from malted barley.All-malt whisky made from barley alone and blended from malts matured over long periods of time, is blessed with a deep scent and mellow taste.

Nikka from the Barrel is Nikka’s flagship whisky and is a blended whisky comprised of 60% Coffey Grain and 40% malts from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. |
Nikka was set up in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the “Father of Japanese Whisky” – who travelled to Scotland in 1918-1920 to discover the secrets of whisky production. Nikka combines traditional Scottish whisky-making techniques with Japanese precision and attention to detail. |
The whiskies are aged for an average of 10 years, blended, then married for 3-6 months in barrels and bottled straight from the marrying barrel. This technique gives the whisky its renowned name. |

If someone offers you a whisky and asks if you'd like a dash of water, you regard them more in sorrow than in anger before refusing, but I thought I'd HAVE to add water to this, 'cos it's gonna BURN, but no - it's strong, believe me, but it's certainly not the firewater it's ABV would suggest, it's actually really smooth without any need for the cop-out H2O and it's got a gloriously flowerlike aroma.
I love this and will definitely be buying again, but I'd advise that you pour yourself a slightly smaller one than usual.. 🍷

I don't really want to return it as I like the whisky and at £36~ it is still a reasonable price (70cl would have been amazing value).
So, top marks for the whisky, bottom marks for the item description.
The best thing I could suggest it might be any good for would be for a cooking whisky, so if you're ever looking to make say a cream whisky sauce then maybe, just maybe this whisky would be suitable for that.
Failing that if you ever need to peel gloss off a wooden surface....
It's awful. Tastes like raw, cheap, produced in somebody's bathtub alcohol.
From what I gather it seems the distillery originally did produce a fine whisky however to meet demand they've messed with it a little (or totally screwed it to be more exact) in order to get more bottles on the shelves.
As whisky becomes ever more popular we're finding this a lot unfortunately, and it is unfortunate as this was my first ever delve into Japanese whisky however I must admit it's put me off ever coming back to it and trying it again. Frightening.
I love this stuff, and would buy it again.
My tasting notes: it's smooth (very), not at all peaty, and quite delicious.
I'm highly sceptical of popular whiskies, £36 and I am impressed. Although I have cleared the bottle rather quickly, given its small size, although for £36, what cask strength whiskies of this calibre are really about for that price? Saying that, if this finds itself in in the mid to high £40's, that is within Aberlour and Nadurra range, troubled waters, excellent competitors, and unfortunately for Nikka from the barrel those competitors are 200ml more. And that's why I can't award 5 stars. Otherwise excellent whisk(e)y.
The look of the bottle is basic, but that’s fine. It’s not a great pourer though, and we found it difficult to pour without some dripping down the side of the bottle or glass. We’d rather not waste a drop of delicious whiskey!
