Don't ever listen to anyone that says Nightmares on Wax doesn't know how to write a phenomenal tune. He certainly does, and the strength of his solo albums Carboot Soul and Smoker's Delight will demonstrate this to anyone who cares to listen. However, there is a massive difference between the melodic pulsing rhythm of these previous albums and the more orthodox side of hip-hop that is on offer here. A noticable failing is that this quickly becomes very 'samey' - i loved the other albums because of the contrast of tracks like Nights Interlude, Me + You, Morse etc. This album sticks to its origins - bouncy hip-hop - perfect if that's what you want, but you kind of get the idea that Mr. Evelyn just got into and out of the studio as quickly as he could, picking up his cheque on the way out. Just look at the expression on his face on the sleeve... Hardly enthralled himself!
It still gets 4 stars, cos i love listening to it, and it really does have quite a bit to offer, but don't expect it to be one of 'those' albums - the ones you tell all your friends about (and often complete strangers too). You realise that DJ Kicks are never going to get a result like the Kruder + Dorfmeister album. They made themselves a milestone which looks like it'll never be passed.

This album takes you through a glorious journey allowing you to sit back and relax. Right from the first track you are blown away from the mellow beat and the uproars of jazz that follow the track all the way through. From the lovely Nightmares On Wax, track 6, that flows through to the sensitive beats of Kenny Dope's tracks 11 and 12 the album takes you on a journey of uplifting beats and wonderful sampling. This definately meets the expectations of Nightmares On Wax's "Carboot Soul". A great sophistication of mixing and choice of tracks that cannot be argued with. A great album for a fat session of chilling. You'll be glad when you've bought this, I know I was.

The first time I heard Nightmares on Wax was at 4am, Tribal Gathering 1996', in the chill out tent. I was mashed and I liked it. A lot. Since then, they have released an album and this, DJ E.A.S.E's first mix album. Rather than reviewing the album I just want the reader to know how important this album has become to me and my friends. Whenever myself and my buddies need to chill and get away from the troubled world, we stick this on the CD player, dim the lights, pour a glass of Chardonnay and have a fat smoke. This album takes you on a journey of beats and soul which somehow makes everything ok. In my opinion, DJ E.A.S.E is the kid; and if you like the same kind of stuff as me, you will adore this album. I throw down a challenge to anybody who is up for it. So far, the only album of it's kind that comes anywhere close to this is Kruder and Dorfmeister-The K & D Sessions and Camp Lo. ....
Peace.

Pretty good stuff. A nice mix of some alternative tunes (at least for me) He has not stuck to one type of sound he has in my view tried to mix it up abit. A good buy for the price. At the very least this is a reminder of why NOW are well liked. The hip hop and soul rnb is wonderfully mixed together. The tracks he has put together are genius. One of the best purchases i have brought this year.If u like alternative hip hop and a bit of soul u will like this if not love it.

Never Liked Hip Hop Much Until This Mix. Sure I can appreciate certain hiphop sounds but it has never grabbed me and made me want to get naked n dance. I didn't think I could give something with hiphop 4/5 but I appreciate well made tracks and the tracks used here are of the highest calibre. I always loved Nightmares on Wax and the sound is unmistakably refined chilled funky beats. However these power based hip hop breaks are ok and with some instrumentals, some funk and some with rhyming its an ok mix. Head nodding without being just all out hard aggression. In other words this is refined breaks and beats by a sophisticated DJ/Producer BUT LACKS A LITTLE SOMETHING!

it's an impressive series dj kicks, but this is arguably the best, well up there with k & d at the least, "george" has a very varied taste, but what he does well is incorporate each track into a comfortable package, could listen to this all day, (and probably will!). Wot's not too like?
