About the Author

A.D Ellis was born and raised in a small farming town in southern Indiana. An avid reader from the time she learned to read, A.D. could often be found curled up somewhere with her nose in a book. Most of her friends were not such book enthusiasts which earned her a few snickers when she was constantly reading. A.D. had always dreamed of being a teacher. She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University in 1999 and her Master’s Degree from Indiana Wesleyan in 2003. A.D. has been teaching in the inner city of Indianapolis for 15 years. While she’s taught several different grades, fourth grade is her favorite. They are learning independence by 4th grade, but most haven’t learned the attitude yet. A.D. loves teaching fractions, variables, probability, and graphing in Math. She loves almost all aspects of English Language Arts. Figurative language, theme, making predictions, drawing conclusions, inference, context clues, making writing come to life, A.D. loves it all! Her students may not be in agreement with that excitement. A.D. met her husband in college in 1996 and they married in June of 2000. A.D. lives in a south side suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband and two school-aged children. When she’s not reading or writing with music blaring, she can be found shopping at thrift stores, reading to her children, and running. A.D. had always pondered the idea of writing a book, but until recently it was a far off dream. In today’s age of independently published authors, A.D. decided to take a chance and try her hand at writing. She has learned so much during this journey and is having a world of fun with it. When I first started reading this story I was worried it was going to be too much for my heart being an emotional person, reading about twin brothers Nate and Nicky, but Nicky was born with problems leaving him different from Nate. Nate is a lovely man and an excellent brother, protecting Nicky his whole life from bullies, he absolutely hates the 'R' word (retard). Nicky sounds so adorable, kind and honest, he loves his brother Nate so much. Then I met Elizabeth (Libby) a beautiful intelligent but very shy quiet girl who allows her sister Audrey to bully her, this part in the story made me mad, I wanted Libby to stick up for herself, tell her sister to shut up and basically get out of her life believe me, it would have saved Libby a lot of heartache, but Libby is too nice to a fault, loving her sister no matter what she said or did. Audrey is absolutely horrid, I disliked her from her first spoken words, but later on in the story with help she starts trying to redeem herself, honestly, I couldn't get past all she had done, maybe I'm just not the forgiving type, the things that happened during this story made me both happy and sad. Libby forms a friendship with Nicky which is lovely then Libby and Nate meet as per Nicky's request. I was shocked to read some of the scenes in this story but it was a fantastic read. The author touches on disabilities, bullying, Interventions, alcohol recovery, grief and male rape, which I found extremely hard, you may be thinking there's no chance I will read this story with all those things going on, however I strongly recommend you to read it, it is written in a beautifully tasteful way. I will definitely read more books from this author.

I received this book to give an honest review.

Read the blurb and I was pulled in to the story. Starting reading and realized even though the book is good it was a book I could put down. I didn't find myself trying to devour the book within a day and for me that isn't good. If I truly love a book I have to finish it to find out what is going to happen next. With For Nicky I did enjoy how we the readers got different P.O.V.'s from all the main characters in the book. We get to learn about each character Nicky, Nate, Elizabeth and even Audrey. With learning about each character we also see things through their eyes and their feelings when confronted with different scenes.
I think what really bothered me was there was so many descriptions within the book, I felt a lot words were repeated, and some of the scenes didn't feel "real" for me.

I know that for some authors writing a character into a book that has a disability is hard you need to get it just right so your readers can get a feel of the character. With Nicky I felt the author did a good job.
Nate and Elizabeth, this story is mostly about two people trying to come together and help each other overcome which eventually happens. They both struggle with different things within their lives. Nate fights people when they are rude and mean to his brother Nicky who is disabled. Elizabeth believes herself to be unworthy of anyone or anything because her sister Audrey has broken her spirit. Quite sad really. But we learn that overtime and with help they can overcome their hardships.
The ending is what I ended up expecting and though it was okay nothing spectacular.

What bothered me with the book.

This is a lovely love story.
Not all of it is lovely what happens between these pages though, abuse, drugs, bullying, put that together and you have a very bumpy ride with relationships with family+friends.
There are some good morales in this story we could all learn from in life.

If I were younger too, I'd have learnt some good lessons from this book to stop and think about.

I liked this book, I think you will too.

What a heartwarming love story. Nate and Libby are a true match. Their emotions are fresh and raw. You will feel like you are actually there while they are getting to know each other and falling in love. Nate is such a strong and loving man. You get to see thru his eyes what it is like to deal with a family member with a disability. How he protects his brother is truly moving. Libby is so kind and sweet yet she deals daily with being bullied. You can't help but root for these two. You will be hooked from the beginning. Going from laughing to crying to being heartbroken to a hopefully happily ever after. It is a special treat to be able to read this book. You will definitely finish it with a smile on your face. Good job A.D. Ellis!
