I did not like the fact the aux cable is spiral. I would have preferred a straight cable like the battery connection. Both are supplied .
Some comments have been made about the connection with the grip and how secure the unit is but I found it supported my camera well on the side bars of my Honda 1200cc crsstourer.
You have to ensure it sits correct on the plate but the other option of a spiral rod connection would be stronger , but more of a pain to take the camera on and off. The quick release is ok as long as you check it is housed properly. This has been my experience so far. Fingers crossed.
The stand/grip could do with some suspension or rubber mounting as over some road surfaces there is some shaking. But the camera appears to have some anti shake built in and over all the quality is excellent . Definitely on par with the first edition gopro action cameras who's battery would be flat after an hours ride out. Its not 4K and number plates can be blurred when moving but i dont think such technology is available on cameras less than 150£. If you crash on a bike it's more likely to be into the side of car sadly, so you won't even see a number plate in my opinion. For seeing the road ahead and giving a general idea on road conditions this would be useful in any insurance claim.
This nextbase bikecam is definitely the best camera I have used, and I have had many. I soon got annoyed with changing batteries every 45 mins on my helmet cam and after a while I also found having one on my helmet soon became a hassle. The extra weight was not much but it would whistle and I would often knock it. So for me one on the bike made more sense.
Set up was easy. And when on aux power it starts up in record automatically when the ignition is turned on,and off, when you turn the bike off. It's that easy. There are menu buttons to adjust timing of the video clips, exposure, screen auto off and you can even turn it into a torch . One feature I liked is that you can put in your registration number plate , which then comes up in the recordings . I actually put ROBSBIKE into the menu rather than my number plate. You can toggle other things to read on the screen like speed, GPS and the nextbase stamp. But don't worry if you go above 70mph often as you can disable the speed or any of the other things that get written onto the recordings .
I have downloaded the nextbase app from the Google store which works ok but when down loading a video from the camera onto my mobile it took about 5 mins per clip. I also found when viewing it would buffer for a while then play for 20 seconds.. then buffer... then play .. then buffer etc etc. So I knock a star off for that but I have experienced the same issues with other wifi cameras if I try to view videos at home. I think my home wifi might be to blame but it's just as easy to remove the simcard and view them on a pc or tablet which you are likely to do if you want to edit or take a still picture from the video.
There is a common issue with this unit in that the small viewing screen fogs up. Even on sunny days. It still records and the screen clears in 5 mins once the bike stationary but I am not fully sure why it should do this. It's no biggie as I tend to have the screen on auto shut down so not to distract me whilst riding.
This should answer most bikers questions and if you can get one for 120£ or less like I did then I recommend this unit way above anything else on the current market. Halfords had it for 220£ and brag it's now 170£ but I would not pay that. For the 120£ RANGE of cameras it is not perfect but it is better. It sure is more suited to touring riders who want the peace of mind equivalent to a car dash camera rather than a track day action camera or for scrambling across fields. Then you buy a gopro. But if your on the road off on your travels then this could be very influential against those sudden pull outs or cut ups that happen everyday.
My other tip...dont buy cheap at 40£ or 50£ as I can guarantee they will break in a month or the image will not be clear enough. Spend more on these items and it will last the lifetime of 5 or 6 of the cheap copies. If not longer. Transcend and nextbase have the edge on most of the other ones on the market from my experience to date.
Easy to hard wire and does what it says on the box. Got this at a great deal price so very happy with my purchase
