Review
'Whether you're making meat-free your resolution or are simply looking for a lighter way to eat, Aine Carlin's fresh-tasting recipes, using natural ingredients, are mouth-watering.' Red Magazine
'Veganism is on the rise, as is the number of meat-free, dairy-free cookbooks. Too many recipes books of this ilk inspire the 'meh' response. Aine Carlin's new one, on the other hand, had us making a 'to cook' recipe list (jerk-style cauliflower steaks? Yes, please.) Great photos too.' Delicious
'Aine Carlin inspires with nourishing recipes that are rich in both flavour and spirit [...] We dare you to hold a vegan dinner party, and not tell anyone until after they've complimented the chef' Image
'Whether you're vegan, vegetarian or a seasoned meat-eater looking to incorporate more vegetation into your diet, Aine Carlin's beautiful new book is full of colourful, enticing and fuss-free recipes for all. Her non-preachy approach to a vegan lifestyle leaves you wanting to know more, and luckily she's on hand with lots of practical tips, advice and information for anyone interested in a plant-based way of life. Even if you're not, you can still enjoy trying out exciting new recipes.' Liz Earle Wellbeing

I am a fairly experienced vegan cook but there is plenty of new ideas here to keep me busy for months but also would suit a new vegan who was looking for ways to change their diet.I love the plant milk 101 with options for different nuts( almond, cashew, hazelnut, pistachio) and also oat and then ways to enhance the milk almond and vanilla, cashew and maple, oat and cinnamon etc etc and then also ideas to use the pulp left from making the milk..apple pie balls, cookie dough balls etc.
Things that I have made and loved are Cashew coated kale chips,Quick pickled radishes,Super easy super green sunday night spaghetti,Black bean taquitos with an enchilada sauce,Jerk style cauliflower steaks,Apples with a caramel dipping sauce, beetroot and lemon cupcakes and lots of the bliss balls( again there is a bliss ball 101).And there is a huge list of yummy looking things that I still want to try..soon!
There is also a section at the back with recipes for vegan beauty products made from food.Did you know, you can use the pulp from making oatmilk and mix with avocado to make a soothing exfoliator...
I would definitely recommend buying this book and Aines first one.
I'm sure some of these recipes would impress but i wouldn't think it was the best book for a new vegan. I think they would rather have recipes that were easy to make or more like things that they were used to eating to make the transition easier. Just my opinion of course.
So a book more suitable for someone who had been vegan for some time and wanted to change up some of the recipes they used.
What I don't like in general in recipes books and specifically in this one and the other ("Keep it Vegan: 100 simple, healthy & delicious dishes"), is that many recipes require too many ingredients (especially spices) that are not used again in others; same goes for those that require X amount of a certain vegetable or other things, as we normally cannot by only X amounts and some people needs multiple recipes where they can use and finish the rest of that ingredient.
I think recipes books need to start showing more awareness around the grocery shopping part of making a dish.
I like the fact that she makes clear that vegan is not equal "thin", as this depends on your awareness of how much you are eating.
a) the lack of recipes with interesting and complex flavours
b) feeding carnivores (my family)
c) the fact I don't like 'fake' meat and cheese substitutes - I'd rather just avoid them
This book solves all three problems and was absolutely what I was looking for - recipes like the fig, cauliflower and almond couscous and the miso mushrooms are good examples of recipes that are delicious without making a big song and dance of being 'vegan foods'. In fact there is literally nothing in here that I don't want to try.
The book is called 'The New Vegan' I assume because it contains sections on how to talk about veganism to others (in short: "don't preach!") as well as beauty and wardrobe tips.
However, if you are a new/transitioning vegan who is still at the 'what on earth do vegans eat' stage, or don't really like spending a lot of time in the kitchen, personally I'd say her first book is better; it is more of a catalogue of ideas, with simple recipes containing basic ingredients, and includes a lot more 'accidentally vegan' recipes like minestrone.
