Format: Hardcover
This book consists of several examples of houses that follow the same aesthetics. It is well-written,has lots of sketches, photos and plans and it is full of ideas. Good quality of paper and a decent layout. It's only small defect it gets a little monotonous.

Great book to add to my immense collection. Inspirational for anyone with an interest in architecture and design or not. Would make just as good a coffee table book?

HASH(0x8d916a38) out of 5 stars A fine residential architecture sampler 10 Jan. 2012
By JLS - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
The New Modern House is a fine sampler of modern residential architecture. The book contains 50 projects located around the world and separated into rural, suburban and urban typologies. Each project contains some nice photographs and a summary, and occasionally there are sketches from the architect. But sadly, and what makes this book a sampler, and not a comprehensive guide, is that the book could easily have been longer, with more detail added to each project. Some of the projects are more complex and warrant more detail, even just the basic floor plans or a section would give a greater understanding. Some projects look very interesting, but appear basically as a tease, when they only provide one photo and no drawings. What architect wouldn't want to see drawings? Don't leave out a section if the project contains 6+ levels imbedded in a hillside!

On the bright note, as it is more of a sampler, it gives you a great springboard to find more detail online, such as archdaily.com, where I saw the book reviewed. As the houses are all significant enough to be published in the book, they are probably significant enough to appear on Archdaily, whose greater detail in pictures, drawings and sketches, will allow for a greater understanding of the projects.

In summary, the book is like a holiday basket, and you received cheese, sausage and spread, but they didn't give you crackers. It can't stand alone at a party, but with a little extra from another source, it will be a delightful contribution.
HASH(0x8d81e720) out of 5 stars beautiful book 12 Feb. 2013
By Kate K. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This is a gorgeous coffee table book. The images are interesting, and I love the inclusion of sketches. It shows you a sample of amazing homes in different areas, and my only criticism is that I wish it went into more detail per project. With a little more information, it could be really helpful resource for people who are building or renovating their own modern houses. That aside, anyone who loves modern residential architecture will love this book. And since it's so beautiful, it makes a great gift.
HASH(0x8d9d35e8) out of 5 stars Interesting photos, short on drawings 11 April 2013

Nice pictures, but if you want to understand the designs more deeply the book comes up short, needing more drawings to explain the solutions.
