OK thanks - my kids seem to think you can get an adaptor to make it work. They both wear glasses and have been advised not to play 3D but they wanted the latest Mario. Thanks anyway.

Obviously the 3D effect can be turned down or turned off completely. But if you're worried about your kids using it, you can use the system's parental controls to turn the 3D off permanently. Nintendo aren't making Mario games for the old DS anymore, so it's probably worth upgrading to the 3DS.
