I decided to collate all the information I've taken from the many diet books I've read and ask myself which approach suited me best, I always felt the low carb diets worked because they force you to break the cycle many of us have with simply consuming far too much carbohydrate (especially refined carbs).
What I love about Dr Charles Clark's method is unlike Atkins (which I did and had success with) is it seems to allow just enough Carbs in to keep some nasty side effects away, ok the weight loss is a tad slower than more extreme methods but any expert (Serial dieters;) will tell you the faster it comes off the less time before it all comes back! His emphasis is on good nutrition via a higher protein and carb restrictive life style and after three weeks of living it I am happy to say I feel great, not hungry, not food obsessed and my body is changing shape before my families eyes, Hell me and the wife can even still share a few glasses of wine in the evenings! I could not say that about any other diets i've attempted, especially low fat where I'm starving all the time and Atkins where I simply felt very odd due to it's more severe nature.Read more ›
Everything is set out and explained in a detail and there are lots of recipes too!
Now the saying you never see a fat Postman is mainly true but due to having an illness I wasn`t able to work and piled on the pounds,I was the typical bloke, eating loads of sandwiches, chocolate biccys and fast food, nearly every night it was either chips or mashed potatoes with whatever and hardly any veg,so when my wife bought this book and said it would be better if we both did it I was horrified!
We started the diet,I thought I`d be starving by day one but I NEVER feel hungry now, before I was always snacking or `treating` myself with a sweetie usually a doughnut or biscuit now I don`t even bother with chocolate,my two teenage daughters have loads of it in the fridge and I`m not even tempted!
I appreciate my food alot more now and for people who say it`s not healthy eating,I`ve never eaten as much vegetables as what I do now, also I enjoy fish in the morning now as well for breakfast..much more healthier than Tony the Tiger or new Honey nut cardboard pap.
Have I lost weight?....I was 15st 7lbs back then I`m now 12st which I consider my ideal weight, did it take loads of willpower?...NO,I NEVER felt hungry infact I didn`t even think I was on a diet,if I can lose weight anybody can.
I got some good scales and borrowed the book from a friend who said it would work as it did for him. I weighed 14 stone at the end of September. The next day I stocked up on the food I needed and commenced my diet. I noticed daily waitloss instantly and by the middle of November I weighed 12st 5lbs. I had a couple of business trips away in between these times and didn't stay on the diet every day. But that's the beauty of this because you don't have to punish yourself as it's effectively a 24hr diet.
You can have a carb fix and be bad some days if you want and the next couple of days be good and you'll still notice the difference. And by being good I don't mean eat cardboard and lettuce leaves, you can have cream of chicken soup for lunch, big juicy steaks for supper and the best bit, bacon and fried eggs for breakfast. All this and I could finally get into those jeans and that shirt that I couldn't look good in before and I felt fantastic. The added bonus here is that I could go out at night with friends regularly and still have alcohol (wine or spirits) and have a great time with them whilst still losing weight.Read more ›
Breakfast - slice of wholemeal bread spread with real butter and either two large boiled eggs, OR bacon, mushrooms and fried eggs, OR scrambled eggs made with a dash of single cream.
Lunch - if I can manage it after such a big breakfast (usually I'm not hungry), just a couple of chicken drumsticks with salad, or a piece of cheese, or egg mayonnaise and salad.
Dinner - usually one of Dr Clark's wonderful recipes from the diet book or his cookbook, with veg or salad, followed by sugar free jelly and squirty real dairy cream.
Evening snack - 4 Carrs Melts crackers (my favourite and also the lowest in carbs that I've found so far), spread with real butter and piled with cheese.
Drinks - I've given up coffee and now drink peppermint or fennel tea, and water or diet coke/lemondade. In the evening I have a couple of brandy and diet cokes, or gin and diet tonics.
Like I said earlier, this is NOT a diet - can't recommend it highly enough, it's worth giving it a go guys, you can't fail!
BTW, this is NOT Atkins, I've tried that in the past and ended up with headaches, bad breath, etc, this is not as restrictive in carbs as Atkins, you eat the amount of carbs your body needs, no more, no less.
