Geshes Kelsang Gyatso's books are as much about establishing a firm tradition within Buddhism as they are for communicating with a wider audience. The tone here is structure, precision and a clarity that can stand up to any angle of investigation by anyone at anytime. Some readability is lost, but if one keeps in mind why, then it is something that can be tolerated for those used to a more free flowing style. The heart of the work is a treatise on emptiness - the Buddhist view on the ultimate view of reality. It was never going to be an easy subject matter to communicate. But by working closely with the text, taking time, considering and contemplating each point, making notes even, a clarity begins to emerge that is quite striking. My world view is being...challenged, and in a very good way. My experience is to not just read this book, but to work with it as well. There are relevant meditations and practices here that help transform the ideas into direct experience. If one is prepared to work as well as read, this is a fantastic resource and I am immensely grateful I own a copy.
