This book was written in a very likeable way, I really like Durwin Rice's sense of humour.
The methods he uses and his instructions are very comprehensive and easy to understand.
He doesn't leave any stone unturned.

However, his examples and photographs were for the most part classical Victoriana and older periods. I would have liked to have seen more examples of modern items suitable for decoupage, especially
furniture. The art deco period being very much in demand at present
plus more modern furniture up to the present day.

Apart from that I really enjoyed his work. Thanks Durwin.

Perfect for what I want, only a couple of projects I wanted and they are written in detail with good photos as as I wanted. A lot of projects just too tacky looking! And felt a bit like last minute ideas/, what can we decoupage next in there to fill up the book! But great for what I want.

3.0 out of 5 stars great for technique and breadth, not so much for "new" style or visuals 20 Dec. 2015

this is the third decoupage book I own, and I've read all three from cover to cover. The other two are the big mod modge project books, and though they are fun and instructive, they don't really show any sophisticated projects that self-respecting adults would be happy to use. This book definitely shows more adult and intense projects with more scope, and is worth reading for technique as well. However, I don't know that I would recommend this book for the project ideas or aesthetic, either. All the projects have a vintage, dated, or "haunted" look, if you know what I mean. They don't look new or fresh or elegant in a contemporary way, and some of them are just ugly. I really appreciate Rice's technique and experience, but not his taste. Looks like for all 3 decoupage books I bought (not including the ancient and even more dated ones I read at the library), one has to bring his/her own project ideas unless the desired look is childish (mod podge books) or really dated (Rice's book).

5.0 out of 5 stars The most superior decoupage book 24 Aug. 2016

I bought this book after reading another purchaser's rave review. Thank you, thank you, thank you! What an outstanding decoupage book this is! Some of the items made by the author, like the inside glass decoupaged and painted vases, are absolutely stunning. The author has a good sense of humor, and if you share his varied taste in art and decor, you will find this book educational and highly inspiring. I thought it was the best decoupage book I had read, and now have the knowledge and inspiration to proceed with my own pieces.
5.0 out of 5 stars The only decoupage book you need! 12 July 2015

This book is phenomenal! You need no other books about decoupage. In my experience, and i think many people will be able to relate to this, i started decoupage with mod podge, but eventually became frustrated with its limitations. I dont just want to make fun crafts, i want to make perfect objects. Quality enough to sell or keep as heirlooms. And i love Durwin's writing style and sense of humor. I want to have a mint julep with him!
