HASH(0x9551e348) out of 5 stars Excellent Discussion of Baseball Statistics 8 Mar. 2007
By Michael L. Slavin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The author covers virtally all aspects of modern baseball statistics. He explains the various newer statistics without being overly technical. Thus, the "non-geeky" fan who wants to understand will be able to comprehend. He also discusses the differences in data compiled during baseballs different eras. He also has a nice chapter on fantasy baseball and simulation games. Worthwhile addition to your baseball library.
HASH(0x9620e774) out of 5 stars Not as in depth as thought 2 May 2014

Don't get me wrong, this is a good book. But I went in thinking there would be more about sabermetics. To me, this book is advertised as a book that will explain SABR stats in laymens terms. It did do some of that near the end, but nearly as much as I thought it would.

I enjoyed the chapters on the different periods of baseball.

This is a very basic book on baseball. If you have played, if you follow baseball somewhat, if you are familiar with the rules, then this will be an overkill for you. For those that don't quite get baseball, but want to learn more very quickly, this is a very good book for that.
