Yes, there is a fair bit of science in the book, but I felt it was presented in a way which was relevant to how you might use acrylic and helped develop an understanding of its properties.
The only minor downside is that some of the media mentioned (the author is a technical advisor for a Canadian paint manufacturer) are not readily available through the main brand names, in fact an internet search for this side of the pond (UK) only threw up one Dutch site which stocks them. Nevertheless I would recommend (and already have!) this book to anyone who works in, or is considering, acrylic painting.
There is some crossover, but I think that it is not too much; each book can then be read separately and independently. However, buying both gives a greater knowledge base.
For artists who have some knowledge of acrylics or for beginners this and the other book is essential reading.

Honestly one of the worst book buys. The subjects it covers is not good presented. You can find everything is has in internet in a much more explainable form. I regret buying it.Published on 15 Sept. 2011 by Agis
