What a terrific story! I loved the fast pace and slick writing, but mostly I loved Jake Rivett, a truly unique character who had me at “Hello.” The novel’s overall premise--corrupt government official colludes with heartless real estate developer-- was valid, although far from unique, but the way Mr. Hatch wove in the concept of urban exploring kept me up past my bedtime, turning pages.

This is the second in a planned series of books featuring the main character, and Jake Rivett can easily handle a long series. If I didn’t have such a long TBR list, I’d certainly read the first in the series (Flash Crash).

If you enjoy high-octane thrillers filled with action and populated by quirky, unique characters, I highly recommend you give the Jake Rivett series a try.

A truly fabulous and entertaining story from start to finish. I already knew that Denison Hatch was a great writer after reading his first book ‘Flash Crash’ (which is also definitely worth a read). He’s put together a great character with Jake Rivett, and a very entertaining and memorable plot. Detective Jake Rivett was definitely not your average cop, far from it. He specialised in undercover assignments, and being a bit of a loner, he liked to do things his own way. Jake found it easy to fit in with the underworld and criminals, even though he believed in justice and the letter of the law, he just didn’t fit the box like all the other detectives. He started out integrating himself by selling stolen goods, and building the trust through word of mouth. What really helped him was that he didn’t look or act like a cop, with his long hair and his current lifestyle. Singing in a heavy metal band and living in the Bronx certainly helped with the image he was trying to convey. His next assignment was personally going to be one of his toughest yet. A group of climbers had broken into a number of properties belonging to Arthur Metropolis, one of Seattle’s richest men. He was a self-made billionaire that started with nothing, and built up an empire of properties. The fact that he was good friends with the Mayor, made it a high priority for the police to solve, and quickly. Jake’s number one fear was heights, so this wasn’t going to be easy to go undercover with a group of climbers, and look confident. Jake’s lucky that Mona, one of the climbers takes a liking to him, and helps him out. He also has his bosses breathing down his neck wanting quick results. If you enjoy Detective Thrillers, then this is certainly a great book to add to your list.

Four and a half INTRIGUING Stars. "Never Go Alone" is by talented author Denison Hatch and the follow up novel to "Flash Crash". The protagonist, Jake Rivett, returns in a big way. He is a surly, highly-effective undercover operative for the NYPD who could move up in the ranks but prefers to go deep undercover in the ranks of the criminal element to investigate a case, satisfy his whims and eventually dole out justice.

This novel begins with not one, but two independent heists underway: a ninja-like crew creeps high into one area of NYC and a wild, more robust crew makes a run at a bank in another area with Jake in tow. When the smoke clears, one crew is successful and one is busted. Then Rivett, the NYPD "secret weapon", is back in the field chasing the other crew into the dark recesses of New York. This is a marvelous introduction to the world of Jake Rivett where we meet the other Jake, Susan & Tony, Leviathan, Urbex, the Silver Pickle, Mona, a trip to Ellis Island, and much more as author Hatch invitingly digs deep into the psyche of Jake and several other characters while conjuring up some remarkable, detailed action scenes above and below the city-scape. Highly Recommended. Four and a half REVEALING Stars. (Lookout Press. Amazon Digital Services LLC. 292 pages. Text-to-Speech, Word Wise, Lending, Enhanced Typesetting all enabled, except X-Ray.)

5.0 out of 5 stars A big step forward for Jake Rivett and author Denison Hatch 26 Jan. 2017
By Alexis C. Jolly - Published on Amazon.com

My only real complaint with the first book in the Jake Rivett series, Flash Crash, was that the bada** Det. Rivett was in many ways relegated to a secondary role, helping quant David Belov clear his name. Well, that's in the past, with Rivett now front and center in Never Go Alone, with his latest adventure set in a world that's ripe for (pun intended) exploration -- urban explorers.

I won't spoil the plot, but it's as thrilling and twisty as fans of the genre would hope. And Hatch's writing continues to grow more gripping and urgent with each installment in the series. How much longer until Book 3?!
5.0 out of 5 stars The tunnels, sewers and skyscrapers, all involved in a police action. 15 Jan. 2017

Another quite unusual story, as was the first Jake Ryvett book, Flash Crash.
In this narrative one discovers a whole lot of really cool and facts about an alternate lifestyle in New York and Manhattan. One discovers the tunnels, sewers, skyscrapers and Statue of Liberty - all discovered in unusual ways.
Somehow, with all this discovering going on, the almost background story of the police action comes through. More of the action though seems to be a preparation for a movie, which I wouldn't be surprised to watch in a year or two..
2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good 11 Jan. 2017

I bought this after reading Flash Crash. I was disappointed. This was disjointed and not well put together. Just couldn't find a rhythm and kept nodding off while reading it. I can't really recommend it.
