This is a noir type of film. It was original and done well. Jack's dry responses create a dark humor making the film enjoyable to watch.
Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Plenty of blood and violence.
My boyfriend usually hates films like this so he asked me not to tell him anything about it before we watched it. Half way in I caught him smiling as the film took an unexpected turn and he ended up loving it. I'm sure you will too.
Then his daughter turns up – this is a daughter he had no idea he had and all of a sudden things start to happen, but not in the way that you would think as hitmen and a legion of nasty types soon emerge from their hiding places and they all want a piece of Jack.
Now Jack is played by Henry Rollins of the Henry Rollins Band fame (saw him at Reading Festival in 94) and what at first seems to be a performance based on lack of interest soon transpires to be perfect for the character that he is portraying. There is strong support across the field here too especially so in Steven Ogg and Kate Greenhouse who both turn in creditworthy performances. This does not have an indie feel except if you are being harsh – I spotted a couple of continuity slips and one sound scene where the levels varied. However, by the end I was so impressed that I did not let those minor glitches affect what is actually a ruddy good film.
Well-paced, wonderfully acted and very entertaining in a somewhat ghoulish manner with comedy overtones.
Give yourself a treat and spend 90 minutes watching this.
It's quirky, weird and in places actual laugh out loud funny. Rollins excels in it and plays Jack brilliantly. A really enjoyable watch.
